About a week and a half ago, we bought 2 Chinese Elms from Costco. We planted them 2 days later. The day after we planted them, one Elm started drying up. Actually the leaves are drying up. The branches are all limp. The other Elm was doing pretty good until a couple of days ago. Now it's leaves are also all dried up.
Is this normal after planting these types of trees or are they dying? Have you ever experienced this? Is that something we can do to help them???
Thanks,
Jessica

I'm not familiar with Chinese Elms, but what you are describing sounds like some of the roots have been badly disturbed or cut off. I think I would give them a bit of time to grow some new roots, continue to water them, but don't drown them! Give them a month or so, and then if you don't see any new leaves growing, give up.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! My husband and I were just talking about how hard the soil it came in was. It was super compact...we were thinking that maybe we should've loosened it up a bit so that it could soak up water. What you are saying makes sense...costco is 45 minutes away so maybe the drive freaked out the trees. I'm going to give it a month and pray that they live.
Thanks!
