Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? *Pleiades

i don't like toasters for that reason. also i like to butter my bread before i toast so i use my toaster oven to do that. sometimes i will brown in it in a skillet w/butter. i like it both ways alot better thaan i do a toaster.

many people ask me the opposite question. why do you only like your bread warmed up? i put my toast on the lowest option for my toast! i guess there are people that actually like it burnt to a crisp. i know my mom likes it dark and crispy!

I have never used toaster but what I saw from TV serials or movie, I can sense thta there is a switch which controls that how black the toast would be when it pops up from it!

Hello Pleiades, I have wondered that same thing myself. I wondered why do I have to try to figure out what setting will not burn the toast when it should be clearly shown to not waste food. If the toast is not too burned I will still eat it but if all I have left is burnt I will throw it away after letting it cool.

I hate sitting at the toaster watching my bread toast so i just turn it on and usually walk away from it. Right above the toaster oven is the smoke detector and it seems to go off quit often and bugs me because i burn all my bread no matter what setting or for how long i turn it on for and it never fails i always do it. Maybe i should stand there with my patience and watch it instead of heading right back on mylot. Have a great rest of the day mylotting.

I actually have a pretty crappy toaster right now. Even when I put it on the highest setting, which is dark, my toast barely browns! lol I don't think I could make it burn unless I stuck it back in 4 or 5 times! lol

I know. The dial on my toaster goes from 1 to 10, and my toast and bagels are nicely toasted/maybe slightly burnt at the 3-4 setting. I can't imagine any bread/pastry that would require the top setting.

How else would birds get to eat toasted bread?
