Do you collect anything "geeky"?

I am a bit of a geek. I have been told so by a few people, and I'm fine with it. I consider it a compliment. After all, a general description of a geek is someone who is extremely enthusiastic on a particular subject. This geeky discussion is about collectibles. I have a "thing" for the tv series "HEROES", and have been watching it pretty much from the start thanks to a certain friend who introduced it to me. I think I'm now somewhat more into the show than him... which is scary, considering just how much of a geek HE is. My latest geeky collectibles, are some "Heroes" action figures. I have 4 now, and am looking forward to collecting the rest of the series'. So far, I have Sylar, Noah (HRG), Peter, and Matt (who comes with Molly). Next in line are Suresh and Hiro (who is my favourite character of the lot, but who hasn't been on sale like the rest lol). Other "Heroes" items I have purchased are the dvd seasons, as well as both printed graphic novels (the comics are also available online... but I like having the hardcover versions). I have everything out in the open for people to see and look at. However, my action figures are merely for display purposes only, in one of my buffet hutches in the dining room... much to the chagrin of my 3 sons, who I have turned into "Heroes" addicts as well. Do you collect anything "geeky"? Stamps? Sports cards? Comic books? Computer games? Rocks? How long have you been collecting it/them? Why did you start? Do you have it out on display, or are you a closet geek collector, and keep things hidden where only you can check them out in their secret location?

I have a comic collection, though I haven't collected in years. Right now its tucked away somewhere safe. Spiderman was my primary comic to collect. Now it seems that I am getting quite a collection of medieval clothing and weaponry.

So, would I be correct in assuming your "safe place" is equivalent to "haven't a clue at the moment"?? The comic books are most definitely geeky. I'm not sure about the medieval clothing and weaponry collection on their own. However, the adorning of such items DOES put you on the medieval geek squad for sure!

Nope... I know exactly where my comic book collection is. Its in my storage closet. As for the donning of medieval apparel and weapons, well yes, then I am definitely a geek. Nothing better than knocking someones shield out of the way and stabbing them in the throat.

On the comic books... wow... I am most definitely impressed. Knowing where something is in your house at any given moment is quite the feat.

I can't say that I collect too much except books and hugs from friends. I am an expert on the latter. LOL.

Claiming your expertise in such an area, to me, screams "geek!".

How "geeky" those collections were all depends on just how enthusiastic you were about them.

I have several things I collect: old Bobbsey Twins books, cobalt blue glass (old or new--I'm not picky), chickens (LOTS of chickens), birdhouses and....Abbotts Dairies items. My boyfriend thinks I'm a bit...strange but he likes to tease me about the chickens! I don't think I'm geeky but I am obsessed--I'll "pet" one or two when I'm stressed!

Yes I agree..my obsession IS geeky but my boyfriend (other than laughing at the number of chickens we packed up in the kitchen!) thinks it goes along with my 'girl next door look'. Now if I could get him to quit joking that his dad was the milkman, I'd be fine! (There's 10 in his family, and none of them really resemble one another).

None of those things seem stereotypically "geeky" to me, but what makes it geeky is the enthusiasm over the collection. So you're at the very least, a chicken geek (better than a geeky chicken, right? lol).

I collect horse and sheep figurines and stuff. I have so many that I simply cannot display them all. So, yep, I'm a GEEK, too.

So you continue to buy them, just because you GOTTA have them, eh?

All of them gifts. I only bought 1 little stuffed paint horse at the Royal one year. Black and white, I couldn't resist. And 1 pair of Sheep figurines (Momma and baby lamb) at the local Fall Fair a few years ago.

Magic the Gathering cards? I have never heard of those. I think I've officially lost some geek rank now.

I collect shot glasses. I had them in a nice desk display, but I have to buy something else to display them in. I had to leave the desk and display behind when I moved to my current home. It was just to bulky and difficult to take apart without wrecking it. I have just added two more glasses in the past week. They were souvenirs from my trip to Alaska.
