Slain in the Spirit?

I, myself, when it comes to religion am undecided. However, my boyfriend is extremely catholic. Yesterday, I went to his youth group prayer meeting. At the end, they were praying to Mary in a circle, holding hands. I noticed that during this several people fell down. The people adjacent to them knew what to do right away: they gently set them down on the ground. The people on the ground were out cold. I was totally freaked out by this. Afterwards, I asked my boyfriend what had happened. He explained to me that they had been "slain in the Spirit" and that it was a connection with God that you couldn't stop. How do you feel about this? Do you think this exists? Has this ever occured to you or someone you know?

Hi paigey, I saw it happen to perhaps as much as 50 people during a retreat with the Anglican Church about ten years ago. Sometimes it is accompanied by speaking in tongues. I think that it is most common in the Pentecostal church. Many who have experienced it describe it as a really good experience. When I was a young man, seeking to find something in Christianity, I had an unusual experience, even though I was little more than watching others and not taking part in the service as such. I did not fall down but something took control of my body and I was unable to move. At the same time I had the feeling that I could leave my body and go up to the ceiling and look down at everyone. I was scared for a moment but than it left me with a good feeling. It lasted for probably five minutes but it was a couple of days before that good feeling left me. I'm inclined to think now that it was some sort of mass hypnosis and certainly wasn't a life changing event. Everything in the universe is natural and there is no place for the supernatural, except in the mind of man. I still believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, but God is not a supernatural being, in fact I doubt if there are words that can define God, probably the best way for us to think of such a force is as unconditional love. Blessings.

There are varius places in the Bible that speak of folks "falling before God's Presence." One was in Revelation where John experienced this. I don't like the term: 'slain in the Spirit.' I prefer just saying that someone fell under the power of the Presence of the Holy Spirit. I have experienced this, and I can tell you that it is real, and has nothing to do with being 'mesmerized.' Those who haven't experienced this will either analyze it through the human mind or dismiss it as an overly emotional experience. But that does not make it unreal. When we pray - we are "not" to pray to Mary. The Bible says that there is only "ONE" mediator between God and mankind, being Jesus." See 1st Timothy 2:5

I believe it is a form of mind control or hypnosis. Some people are more suseptable to it than others. The Bible tells us to put no one before The True G'd. Mary is not a god she certainly is not the True G'd, so how can anyone even consider praying to her. G'd did not change the 10 Commandments neither did the christ, man did. Read the origional Gospel of Mark. This gospel comes the closest to what the christ lived. Shalom~Adoniah

Its more of a personal experience really, to feel you are surrendering yourself "The Whole raggidy and dark side included self" to a higher loving being. I mean the feeling of being forgiven by whom it all matters is I guess the biggest and most overwhelming feeling there is. I guess that is how this slain in the spirit goes. I myself haven't felt such a compelling feeling though I used to be catholic, I am now spiritual having a personal and deeper relationship with GOD. But then again holding all of that emotional and psychological baggage for years and finally someone in heaven is offering to lift it and forgive them...WOW that is an offer you can't refuse. Any ways we are so entangled in our day to day lives "Mostly problems by the way" that we forget or not aware that we have spirits as well. We need closure and I believe that is what this phenomenon offers to its participant. :) Who knows if you allow your heart you might get the same feeling...forgiving yourself, getting forgive by the BIG BOSS...its something really special :)

IT happened to me once at a Catholic retreat. I am not Catholic anymore, though I still believe in God. I don't know quite how to explain it. I was standing up praying and then I felt my body getting heavier and heavier. I had no choice but to fall down. I lay there for a while, and I felt happy and at peace. Then some friends pulled me up and I looked around and the room was empty. I had been lying down for forty minutes but it felt like five. It was weird.
