one dozen (120 + one extra free as a token for buying a dozen = 12+1 = 13.

A bakers dozen is 13. 12 for his customers and 1 for him to eat. Thats how Ive always heard it. lol

13 of whatever you bought , I dont know why but I think its was a way of the bakers keeping the customers happy way back then , if you ordered a dozen rolls etc they would always throw in a free one just to be nice.:) ~M~
