Carpenter ANTS, How can I get rid of them in my home?

Does anyone know how I can get rid of these carpenter ants? It's terrible. They are every where. I have cats in the house, so I am trying to find a homemade remedy that is not poisonous. I did try boric acid. And then I read on the bottle that it does not kill carpenter ants. I have new wood deck in the front of my home, and that seems to be where they started coming in, but now they are in the kitchen also. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it, and I will give anything it a try. Thanks.

I don't know if it will work on carpenter ants, but if you can find the trail of regular ants (black and red), sprinkle cinnamon or black pepper generously over and around it. The strong smell confuses them because they use scent to follow their paths. If you can find where they're coming onto the deck, use it there, and wherever else you can find a trail or entry point. Good luck!

Good day, frtwome. Does the carpenter ant look like the termite? I haven't seen that yet but I apply used oil (the one found in vehicles) on wood as a remedy for termites. That was effective and cost cheaper than solignum. Maybe this will also work on your problem. Or you should have a pet armadillo in your house to eliminate those ants.

Hello, No, they are not termites. The are however wood ants. They are much bigger than than the regular ants. I'm trying find something that I can sprinkle around the house, to keep them out. But, I have to be careful what I use, because I don't want ants treated with poison coming into the house where the cats eat. Thanks for your help, and I think I will pass on the pet armadillo. (Ha! Ha!) I would rather have the ants.
