It is a strain of influenza that is a endemic in swine (pigs). When it comes in contact with a human host it is similar to the flu we are use to getting except that we don't have any vaccines to fight it. It is just another strain of influenza that will kill as many people as it can before we get it contained.

It's got something to do with pigs which is kinda gross, imo. I was thinking today that I don't mind getting the flu. I mean it's terrible and all and I always feel like crap and am stuck in bed for days but I've survived. But getting something like the swine flu is gross. I don't want a pig virus living inside of me...ewwww

It is much like bird flu (just as in the name) it comes from the name pig in greek when the infected pig gets into contact with a human the human can gets the same diseace. so to answer the question, it deffinetly comes from pig (or swin in greek).
