A chance to think about others.

If you were given 1 million dollars, and you were not allowed to spend any of it on yourself, what would you do with it? I would donate to a few charities and I would give the rest to my parents, my boyfriend, my boyfriend's parents, and people that I know in my community who are in need. I would also buy my best friend this really nice diamond necklace that she loves. She'd be so happy, lol.

i'd invest a good portion in a business where unemployed people can join in and not think too much about the working capital. i'd finance people who have great ideas about small businesses but unable to start one because of lack of capital. some of my family members may be able to join and some of my friends too. but i think it would help small communities grow along with their family. i've been working in microfinance and i've met a lot of the needy. i wanna put the money into good use to help more people. the only catch for the investment is that they should be able to generate work for several people so it could boost the local economic activity as well. in this trying times, a lot of people will appreciate to be able to have work at all. the rest of the money will be put to ease the lives of my loved ones. my parents are old. they both deserve to have the rest of their life in comfort. my mom loves to see a bit of the world so i'll send her into a european vacation and visit vatican city. my nephews and nieces would like to visit japan (the manga and anime thing i guess) but i'll ensure first that there's enough money to see to their university education. that's the best gift i could give to my siblings (the kid's parents).

i thought it would be great to use it to generate work. more people would be helped that way. even the economy. the family will have source of income. the money initially invested could go a long long way. not just a one-off to provide food for a few meals. there are so many people in third world countries living with less than $2 a day. we culd make a difference in the lives of these people. :)

There was a movie made alon those lines. It was a Richard Pryor movie called Brewster's Millions. The concept was that he had to spend a million dollars and none of it could be on himself! The real catch that he did not know about was that there was plenty more waiting for him if he were not greedy! It would be easy to do I think. There are so many people in real need in the world. Buying houses and vehicles for others would be great fun! One could even start a small business venture hiring all others and pouring any profits into other's lives as well!

First, I'd puchase medical insurance for my mom. I hate that she is without it. I'd probaby help out my elderly next door neighbors as well. Then set up funds for my kids.

Well, setting up a educational institution would be a very long term affair and 1 million dollar is a small cost for it. I would spend on it something that would make others happy. I like to live by the saying. 'Give someone a fish, and they will ask you again. Teach someone how to fish and they would give others'. I would do something that would make a person self sufficient and stable, so that he can help others. bourne

I would spend it to feed as many of the hungry people as possible by donating to charities. Also,i would like to give it to the environment conservation people, they work so hard to ensure the safe future of our country and dont get too many rewards for their work. I also would like to give the money to people who need it for emergencies like a costly treatment at a hospital, etc. I think giving it to your parents would be selfish,i dont think it can b called thinking about others. There are people in this world who need it more than they do.I'll give it to friends who are in great need and need money urgently. Also, a diamond necklace is again a waste of the money in my view.

Yes there are people who need it more than they do, but they have spent sooo much money on me, it is only fair that I pay them back. Plus I know that they would spend it on good things. My mom would also donate some of it to charities, because she has talked about what she would do if she had alot of money. So I don't think it would be selfish. I want to give them what they deserve for their hard work.

i would try to initiate a nationwide feeding to those in need. I will also try to help those people in my community like giving them, groceries and maybe create a factory to help those unemployed fellowmen of mine. I love helping too much, it just that i really don't have that money to supply.

Well i wouldn help others.. U know wat happens if u put your money in charities or schools n hospitals? The authorities only use them. U don help the needy there. Infact it doesn make sense in helping others just like that without their effort in earning it. I would rather use the money to change the whole system of government by making educated people to participate in elections n thus secure my countrys future. A good leader can solve everything .. So i would invert it in finding the best candidate n making things go easy for him to stand in the election n helping him campaign .. Sounds so virtual eh? A million dollars also sounds virtual to me.. But ya this will be wat i would do. Strike the root of the problem of poverty.. Tats wat i believe in..

Hi,captainmorgan Well,if given one million dollars,I would like to found a primary school in poor regions.I don't know whether it is enough, but it is my dream to help on education. If it is not enough,I will donate it to schools that need the money and families that cannot support their children in education. first i would go back to that hospital where i had my ear surgery and pay for the hospital care/surgeries/medicines of those people that are waiting in line sleeping in the hallway of the hospital's corridor because they dont have money to pay for the operation. i would sponsor them and pay for them so they can get operated right away. i would go to those provinces here, where people are soo poor they dont have enough money to buy food, some of them are having mental problems, they were chained to their houses so as not to harm other people, i would talk to the town officials, and look for ways on how to have an income livelihood program, so they can earn and they will have money to buy their basic needs. i would also do some raffles and have tricycles, mini-store showcase as prizes. i would go to that province, where kids are carrying sacks of charcoal and bringing them to the market walkign 3 hours and earning so very little, i will sponsor their schooling, so they may have a good future and will not carry heavy things anymore. i'll buy my mom a house of her own, plus a tricycle, and a mini store, so she wont be having any money problems anymore. i'll buy my sister a small house and her own mini store and tricycle also so she can have a way to earn a living. i'll donate some of the money to this institution here where we had visited when i was a child, it's an institution for those kids/adults that are mentally retarded. they teach them how to be as normal as can be. id go to the home for the aged, and donate some of the money there too. i'll buy lots of toys and bring them to slum areas, and give all the kids there toys. then if there's some left, i'd choose a church to donate it to.

Really nice question!I dont know where to start from!First and foremost I would give money to my parents and my sister's family.I would also give something to my best friend which is like a sister to me. Then I would donate money to a particular organisation which helps children suffering from cancer. I would also donate money to an animal association. Last but not least i would like to adopt a child from distance to be able to contribute to help in the child's education, health and development.

I'd give $100,000 each to my six sisters, my brother and my son. I'd like them all to have the option of paying off a large part of their mortgages now that home values have dropped. This would protect them from harm if any of them lost their jobs and had to move to another town to work. I'd use the remaining money to fund a summer music program in my small town and buy instruments for kids who would otherwise not be able to play in a band.
