I want to read both.Poems when I am too busy and short stories when not too busy and novels when I'm not busy... I read poems for the way, it titillates my mind to unravel the meaning of the poet, Short stories to entertain me and novels- both. What about you? What do you usually read? You can include those that are not found in both choices. Cheers and happy mylotting.

Actually for me it doesn't depend on time....depends on my mood....I love poetry so that is something I take time to do....if you are looking for inspiration etc you can find it there....if I want just a little reading then the short story...I save novels for vacation time.

I prefer short stories. Poems are nice but they are really hard to understand sometimes. So they may be really short but so hard to figure out!
I normally read novels though because I like to read a little each day...kind of like a soap opera. And I get to know the character better..not like in short stories where it only takes like 15 minutes to read and you don't really get to know the characters.

Poetry has always meant a lot to me and I can reread my best loved poems many times. I have read very few short stories but I have read hundreds of novels. I really don't get on with the short story form. I like to become involved with characters and plot development in a book. It can take me a week or longer to reach the end of a long novel and during that time I feel I can live with those fictional people in the time and place where the novel is set.
