Yesterday, I had free passes to a screening of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. As I was entering the theatre they had a Bloodmobile outside asking people to donate blood. They were offering a free movie ticket if you donated.
Well, I have never donated blood before but I had always thought about doing it. So I decided to go and donate blood after my movie was over. It was not that bad of an experience. And I look at it that I am helping to save lives by donating blood.
I really didn't know what to expect but it was not that bad. First, they had me fill out a questionnaire and read a pamphlet. Then they tested my blood to see if I had enough iron to donate. Then they had me lay down and they drew a pint of blood. All in all I think the whole process was about 30 minutes long. I did not feel faint or anything afterwards and I think I will do this again in the future.
My husband was with me but he did not want to be anywhere near the Bloodmobile. He just sat outside on a bench and waited for me. He has a thing about doctors and needles.
So, I donated my blood and when I was finished I was pleased to find out that in addition to the movie pass I also got a free ticket to admit 2 to the Improv at the Hard Rock Cafe here in Florida. And they gave me an orange juice, a coke, and some crackers. So, it was pretty good. I am just happy to help save lives.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

How nice, you do good for others and it makes you feel good plus you get some drinks, eats and treats for yourself. That is great. Since I have had cancer I am not able to donate blood. I have had to have blood given to me in the past and a bunch of guys where my husband worked donated to replace what was given to me which I thought was really nice of them.

That was nice of your husband's co workers. A lot of people volunteer at blood drives if they cannot give themselves. I am glad someone was there to donate for you when you needed it.

Donating blood is so easy for most people and does so much good! I have trouble donating, my veins roll and it takes a VERY good phlebotomist to get my blood without five or more tries. That hurts!! So I don't do it often. If I could find a place with a good, skilled person there consistently, I would do it every 6 weeks or however long you have to wait before you donate again.

I think its a good idea for them to give out movie passes for those who are willing to donate. I don't think they do it here because if they do then we will definitely not run out of blood in the blood banks hehe The favorite past time of people here are watching movies, and I bet they would be willing to donate just so that they can have free passes. One ticket here is equivalent to a big meal.

Great Job!... Donating blood does not also benefit others, but it benefits you as well.
First - the blood that was taken by you, will be replace with new blood cells, which is good for us humans, just like a car which need refuel.
Second - if you donate you get a feeling of self-enjoyment, you feel happy because you knew someday your blood could help save someone.
Third - if you always donate a blood, you will be given a card, this card entitles you to get a blood from any bloodbank for free. Usually this card are Red Cross Certified. So that means if any member of the family or friends needs blood, then you have no problem in finding a donor for it.
I have already donated a blood three times already, usually i do this once a year. It's one way i can help my fellow citizens..^_^
So what are you waiting for guys, Help Save Lives, Donate Now!..^_^

Hi schulzie
Its good to hear you have donated your blood. Afterall blood cells are cells that can replace the blood that you have donated and ther is no harm in doing so. All this while I always had the intention to donate but I am not allowed as I have low blood pressure. I am advised to eat more iron containing food so that I will be able to donate soon. Hope I will get the chance one day.
Thanusha

It's very kind of you to make the donation, your behavior will definitely benefit someone in need of blood.
I would like to donate my blood but unfortunately my fainting problem made it impossible. It is a pity.
One of my roommates donated her blood for the very first time on her 18 birthday, which made her birthday some meaningful and special.
Take care of yourself ,after all, blood donation will influence your health situation more or less.

That's really nice. I've always wanted to donate blood. I'm just really not that great with needles and everything else. But I guess there will come a time when I can conquer that and then I shall be able to donate blood.

My grandpa was always donating his blood. He had a rare o blood. I have low iron most times and I haven't donated blood before but I have never had that kind of incentive to do so..it is good that they gave you so much but then you gave a chance of life that someone might need. Good for you if you do it a few times hubby might unfreeze enough to try it once...maybe..

Donating blood is a wonderful thing to do and it's great knowing you are helping to save the life of someone else. I use to donate blood all the time at work and would still do it but my health and medications has stopped me. I am glad you took the leap and did it. A lot of people think it is a hard process but it is not, sometimes you get friendly and funny technicians working with you and they try to make the whole experience a pleasant one.

hey that was very noble and brave of you. I have never donated blood and I don't think I ever will. Not because I don't want to but needles and injections just freak me out. Plus back when I was kid we used to be forced to donate blood so I dodged that most of the time. But Well done to you though.. Happy my lotting..

It is good because you can help others who need blood. In that way it is also good for the body to refresh the blood. If only I can't donate blood I love to but say to say I'm not qualified. My father is a red cross member he donated blood many times so if we need blood transfusion we don't have a problem getting a blood there. When my mother needs blood transfusinon when she had severe hemorrhage my father gets blood immediately in red cross and the only payment is you need to replace the blood that you get to them. Red Cross is a great help to us and we can ensure the safetiness of the blood there.

You are less of a chicken than I am. I have a problem with the whole needle thing, but it is my goal to one day be able to donate blood. I know how much I could help, but I have passed out before looking at my own blood. (I didn't like the last blood experience.) I will one day overcome my fear and help!
You should be very proud of yourself!
