If your house caught on fire and you could only save one thing what would it be?

Probably my photo albums- they hold such great memories things and times I could never get back. It shows how my children have grown through the years and that is a life time of things that I hold near and dear to my heart.

Sweet- value isn't based on the money something is worth- it os based on what something means to you and that is proceless.

I'm insured, so nothing. It will finally get rid of all the electronic devices that broke down during my twelve years here. (One computer (Mac 63000, I belive, before MacOS X), with monitor and printer circa 1990) various small TVs and portable DVD players.
It will be nice to get another apartment that didn't have the main window facing the setting afternoon sun ...

I would save my diary. I don't think of photo albums, I've got it under numerical form on the internet, so it's not a must save. There're some important personal papers and certificates, but I can claim them from the bureaus which gave them. But the diary is important for me, it contant my emotions at some moment. Now though I still remember every events, I think that I would have different way to describe what I feel about each one. It's another experience.

It will certainly the documents placed in a plastic envelop. That envelop contains my passport, birth & marriage papers, photo copies of my IDs, passbooks, land titles, receipts of property taxes and other important things. They are all placed in just one envelop. My family members including our maid know what to get in times of fire (God forbid though).

My house did catch on fire and a grab my photo's and Jewelry because I have rings that have been passed down in my family so they were of great personal value. Photo's can never be replaced. It's an awful choice to make but it was almost automatic with me. Happy Mylotting!

Wow. Sorry to hear that you actually had a fire. Did you lose everything else besides the photo's and jewelry? That is a shame. One of my best friends lost everything she had in a fire (which is what made me think of this discussion). It was very hard on them. But now they are back in their new home. We had a housewarming party for them, and they received some very nice gifts, too. I hope you were able to replace whatever you lost.

I did lose everything I had! It was like 4 years ago I do not think that I have fully recovered from it to be honest. Well for my stuff I lost any way. I have been able to replace things like furniture and stuff. And my sons belongings. But as far as like my clothes and stuff I have not. Shortly after the fire I become pregnant so most of my money goes on my kids I have an 8 year old and a 2 year old. So I mostly have hand me downs I rarely buy myself clothes. But if that is all it is than I am thankful. I can handle me not having alot of them lol lol. I am just thankful that no one was harmed in the fire that was set on purpose by the landlord for insurance money.

It'd to be a toy I was given on my first birthday by a cousin of mine. Three months after my birthday he past away from a brain tumor, he was only 5. That toy is something I've always made sure to keep and have. I hope to have it for as long as possible and pass it on to my child, if I ever have one.

What a great story and amazing gift- you are lucky to have such memories of your cousin and a great reminder for his love.

A mantle clock which is the first thing hubby and I brought when we had a little extra to spend. It's not valuable except to us.

Hi, Toofancy
I was about to answer photo albums and my laptop but when I thought about it, I would probably grab certificates, diplomas, land titles and other stuff like that. It would be very inconvenient to lose those.
Have a nice day!

Yes, important documents would be something to think about during a fire. Some people keep those either in a safety deposit box or in a fire proof safe. I don't...but I know I probably should. I do keep them all together in one place, though. Thanks!

Whoa this would be a hard choice I mean what about my pets would they already be out of the house. If they and my girls and my boyfriend were all out of the house and this would be something that has no life that I would want to save. I think I would pick my computer that is the only way I make money so I think that would be something imporant to me, the other thing would be my pictures I must have those too. Take care and happy mylotting to you.

It would definitely be my computer or at least my hard drive. I have pictures, my writing, and many other things on there that I wouldn't want lost. I have some backup disks but it would take me a while to find them. So I would say that in case of a fire I would go out the window with my computer first. Of course, I have a lot of pets so they would be the priority in reality. But it is hard to save aquarium fish in a fire, so sadly except for my betta in the one gallon tank they would probably be lost. :-(
