My desktop shortcuts don't work!

I have Vista Home Premium on my laptop and I have a recurring problem with my desktop shortcuts. Every now and again they don't work at all and the only way to resolve the problem is to do a system restore to a few days back; all is then ok for a while until the problem reoccurs. Has anyone else experienced this? If you have, would you please enlighten me on how I can fix this? Is it a registry problem? Any hints would be appreciated.

Fist and foremost make sure if the file exist or not. I think the file or the software must have gotten deleted and so system restore to an earlier point helps. Shortcut wouldn't help when the original file is not there. I have been using for more than a year now and haven't ha any problem whatsoever. For home use, its perfectly OK. People tend to criticise a new product very easily. It requires time to fix the glitches and cater to the people. I feel, more than anything else we must be little wise and savvy. Or else no window will work OK. Hope you problem gets fixed. Keep us informed.

The problem is with every single shortcut on my desktop! Some are to websites and some are to existing documents, it's a strange problem and I’m at a loss on how to fix it! I am not keen on Vista and I have had a lot of problems with software incompatibility and security issues; at least those are resolved! Thanks for replying mimpi.

is it very new one, you should show it to the agent from where you purchased and if its out of warranty period, you should call some engineer to sort out your problem, i think that there is some major problem otherwise it doenst happens normally...is it that laptops are moer prone to problems, coz recently i also heard from my sister's son, he also has a laptop, and its new, but still he was typing something and something else was appearing when he was chatting with me...i have never seen such problems with desktops.

Oh, i don't use Windows Vista as many have suggested me that this o/s had some bugs and every now and then I will face problems. So, best way to get rid of them is to come back to Windows XP!

Hi sanuanu! I thought about doing that because I have the original XP disc from my desktop but I have been told my laptop cannot be changed from Vista to XP, never mind! Thanks for responding!

Thanks for responding! I downloaded a fix that was suggested on the Vista forum; I have no idea if it will work. The shortcuts are OK at the moment, it's a matter of them staying put!
