I'm really interested in picking up quilting. While I have an old Elna sewing machine from my hubby's grandma (it's from the 1970s, I think), I have absolutely no idea how to go about starting.
I did buy some precut squares (I'm planning on making a simple patchwork blanket for my baby - am current 28th weeks preggers) and am waiting for them to arrive, and ordered some books on basic stuff on quilting but I'm looking for tips, advice or suggestions on where and how I can start.
Any sagely (or even non-sagely) advice to share?

Take it slow and don't worry if there are little mistakes as those are what give the quilt character. Now that you'll have a little one might I suggest saving squares from favorite outfits and what not as these make great keepsakes later. Also if you check out some antique sites you'll find some great quilts using baby's first dress or christening gown that are just superb.

What a corking good hobby to do! Dashed world today has forgotten how to do these things and i am flabbergasted to hear of your interest.
You are a game filly, i'll give you that.
I am afraid a crusty old codger like me can not help you but best of luck.
