I was reading this magazine and there was this story about women who give birth while incarcerated.Do you think women have the right to keep their children with them in prison?I think so,mother and child need each other and i t's belive to be best for the babie to stay and not be separated from the mom at birth. Those program decrease the rate of recidivism, witch is the whole point. What do you think?

I think it would depend on how long the mother would be in prison. If the mother is serving a short sentence then I don't see why there should be a problem because they would need to bond. However, if the mother were serving a longer or life sentence then I would have to think about the situation. Is it fair to the child to bond with the mother only to be taken away later? I am sure there are some ladies who have family or friends that could help them out but not all of them do. If there isn't anyone to help the mother who has a longer sentence maintain a relationship with the child then I think it would be best for the child to be able to bond with who ever will be raising him or her.

If the prison has a special facility for mothers and their babies I don't see any problem with allowing the child to remain with his/her mother for a period of time. There does come a point though when it's not a good environment for a child so, if the mother is doing a long sentence...several years...the child should be removed from the facility.

yes I think babies need their mothers so I don't look at it as a privledge on the mothers behalf although once they get to a certain age i think no I would hate to think what a little one could pick up in a place like that as a childs mind is like a sponge when they are very young.

No. In prison you have no rights. You are there because you screwed up. Taking the children away from their mothers forces them to get a good hard dose of reality. Maybe by having their children taken from them, it'll make them wake up and next time they are in the position to do something stuipd to land them back in jail, they'll think about their kids and not do it.
You have no rights in prison for a reason. It's a prison. Not a Hyatt Suites.
