Do you think hotdogs are a good dinner time meal?

I haven't eaten anything all day; just a teaspoon of sugar in my afternoon tea. So, when it came time to fix dinner for myself, I opted for a hotdog. I've been resisting that hotdog all day and trying to get some things done around our new house. So much cleaning to do, so little time. Guess hotdogs are not the wisest food choice for someone trying to lose weight.
Sometimes, my daughter asks for hotdogs for dinner, but I don't serve them. I like to serve real foods including chicken and other healthy meal choices for the main meals.
For me, hotdogs are an occasional snack and not a replacement for dinner. She thinks otherwise!
Do you ever eat hotdogs for dinner? Or, just snack time?

Hi beautyqueen26...I guess a hot dog isnt a good choice if you are trying to lose weight, but once in a while wont hurt. I always fed my kids hotdogs as meals when they were growing up, at least once a week. They were affordable and the kids loved them. I always added cheese, sometimes onions, or sometimes I made casseroles with Kraft dinner, hotdogs cut up and broccoli. It was a great way for them to eat a good vegetable.
When kids are younger, they run around enough to burn off any calories in hotdogs. If you are worried about it being unhealthy, why not give your daughter just one hotdog with a side of salad or veggies. I think they are too much for just a snack.

That's a really good idea about serving a hotdog with a side of veggies. Yes, hotdogs are more than a snack for a child. Usually if she has a hotdog she considers that to be meal time. But it's something she likes to eat. I try to balance things out. Thanks for the great advice.

i eat them for dinner sometimes.usually with chili on top and some potato chips.
it's a quick meal,and we don't have it that often,so i think it's okay.
..as long as they're good hotdogs, not those ones that make you burp acid for the next 3 hours.

I have purchased hot dogs for the guys here, but I do not remember eating any in awhile. The others eat them, and I just watch them disappear. I made beans and weiners tonight for my clients, with a limited portion of chips, and carrot sticks.Glass of milk. Good Saturday evening meal when you have been on the go all day.

We usually stick to the more expensive hot dogs. I
can't remember the brand name right now. Fuzzy brain.
But we got a different brand this week and they are surprisingly
delicious.
Also not cheap.
Of course, we have tried the one dollar hot dogs.
That's a pack for one dollar and no one likes those.

I think anything is ok in moderation, I prefer not to eat meat at all but I must admit I have cravings for hotdogs, I have what I call vegetarian hotdogs sometimes and they are simply a bread roll with butter and tomato sauce in it, I love them...but then i love tomato sauce on anything...

I like eating hotdogs for breakfast. They're not heavy and they are easy to cook. They contain lots of corn and a few meat though, so they don't really have much nutrition in them.
I don't think they're good for dinner though, they're considered as junk food too. Unless there's nothing else left in the fridge and you'd only want to fix yourself a meal before going to bed.
Further, hotdogs aren't the healthiest food there is. Skipping meals isn't the way to diet too.

Skipping meals was an oversight more than a diet strategy.
The one teaspoon of sugar played havoc with my metabolism and I
just wasn't hungry all day.
Don't know why.
Same thing happens when I drink Orange Juice in the morning.
I don't eat all day.
Not cause I don't want to. Just cant eat.
Who knows why.
Thanks for your comments.

We have hotdogs for dinner, and as long as the are all meat hot dogs then they are not bad for you when you are dieting. I also like hotdogs with saurkraut.

If you are trying to lose weight, you CANNOT starve. Make a nice broth (chicken, onion, a bit of oregano, a carrot) and use it instead of tea. You´ll be amazed how comforting it is. AND filling. Then eat your hotdog as dinner, if you wish, with onions, pickles, some mashed avocado if you have one. NO MAYO.
Try putting some lemon juice to the tea instead of sugar. It´s very classy (the au citron).
For snacks I use a dip made with light cottage cheese, light yogurt, lots of minced chives, a dash of either Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce. I dip raw celery, raw carrot, raw cauliflower. If you like it, you can add a bit of crushed garlic too.

I try not to fix hotdogs very often. I do serve them for lunch or dinner sometimes though. We'll put the hotdog on a bun with ketchup, mustard, chili and slaw. Sometimes we might leave the chili off. We might either eat chips or french fries with it and sometime baked beans too. I've never just eaten a hotdog as a snack though. I've only served it for lunch or dinner.

I haven't eaten a hot dog in quite sometime. But I have seen them in the grocery store, and they have hot dogs that are very low in fat. And they apparently taste good. We bought some for my dad to replace the ones he usually eats, and he never noticed the difference, so the taste difference must be nothing. So he was able to keep eating hot dogs, but now they are just healthier. I like hot dogs even though I don't often eat them. I love to top them with relish and sometimes chili.

Occassional hot dogs won't harm us if we eat them for dinner. I open a can of hot dog sausages sometimes for my kids as they are quick and easy. When they're fractious and hungry I know that I can serve them some hot dog sausages and scrambled eggs in just a few minutes.

If you think hotdogs are good at all you need to tour a packing house. You may walk out not only not ever wanting to eat a hotdog again but you may also be determined to become vegitarian.
Ive worked in thoses places for many years. Hotdogs are make out of all the things that are considered scrap. As well as lunch meat. This one place i worked this guy would pick up the ground meat that had fallen on the floor and put it back with the meat that didnt fall. Without the knowledge of quality control of coarse. Many things happen behind their backs.

It depends, you always have to look at what a food has in it, A hot dog has about as many calories as a snack, half or two third of it being fat calories, which is about teh same as icecream, It has no sugar though and about 6 grams of protien which makes it more balanced. a normal portion of protein for a meal is 12 grams so two hotdogs would be equivalent to a high fat content meal, which is not a bad thing (I wouldn't do it everyday mind you). People eat more high fat than they think in meals with cheeses, sauces, creams, butter they cook with etd, so it probably is about the same of something else your daughter would eat. It's like eating fish sticks, which are like the hotdogs of fish...they are just bits an dpieces of teh parts of a fish no one would ordinarily eat haha. But it doesn't make it unhealthy, just a food to be mindful about, Something liek pizza gets a bad rap because of teh high fat, but pizza contains more protein than people think because of teh cheese, plus cheese has calcium in it too. Also, the rest of it is just bread and red sauce which is good for you and low in fat. Just take the foods apart and remember what is in them that is good for you instead of listening to the reputations and labels that have been put on foods. People don't know squat about what's nutritious now a days...just look at some of them. It's all about moderation and portion size not as much of what kind.

on another angle anything, any food, taken into excess is bad. hot dogs actually are lower in calories compared to other meal foods if taken only in two pieces. however, fiber should be taken also in moderation to help eliminate body wastes that, based from my experience, really add weight.

HOtdogs are a great dinner meal, lunch meal, breakfast meal, or snack. There is a really great hot dog stand just down the street from hwere we live (as good as the ones in New York my husband says), and we eat there often. We eat there so often, because they do better hot dogs than we can make at home. They have a lot of cool toppings too.

I am the hot dog toppings queen.
Sometimes, my toppings outweigh
the actual hot dog!

I don't usually fix hot dogs for dinner but I will if we can grill out. We will cook them occasionally for lunch and we like them with french fries. My husband doesn't like for me to have them for dinner either as he says they aren't filling enough for a dinner time meal.

My honey is just happy that I eat anything
on some days. He is always urging me to prepare
dinner for myself, but I'm too busy. Of course,
I'm not too busy to feed my family, just too busy to
eat anything for myself. Thanks for your comments.

We just had hot dogs with homemade mac and cheese for dinner. Sure they are not diet food but having one every once in a while is not going to kill me. lol! I just thought it would be an easy meal. If I snack, a hotdog is not what I would snack on, it would be some baby carrots or baked tortilla chips.

Depending on how one makes the hotdog(s) it can be a really great meal. I know that most people just throw a hotdog in the microwave and slap it on a bun with ketchup and mustard but there are many delicious hotdog recipes on the web. I personally like onions and peppers on my hotdogs whenever I decide to make some for lunch or dinner.

I have no problems with serving hotdogs for dinner. Of course it isnt something I would serve all of the time. But if you try, you can easily get in some other good things with the hot dog! Put some onions on it. Serve it with a salad. Make some veggies to go with it. Losing weight and eating healthy doesnt have to mean giving everything up. If you have one thing that isnt as good for you, just make sure the rest of the meal has some good things in it too!
