It weren't that healthy

The ladies of my Bible Study know that three of us are diabetic, and decided to get some diabetic cookies for us, well there were just two of us diabetics and the ones they had were like shortbread cookies made for diabetics plus some fruit cream cookies of the same type. Well they were mainly white flour, butter substitute, and the non-diabetic cookies were some loafs either banana and raisin, carrot or bran muffins, and a regular cake loaf plus dark chocolate cookies. I was reading up on diabetes and know that there are more of us and that part of the reason is the bread and flour we eat. Yet when they make diabetic cookies, all they do is to take out the sugar place it with equal or Splenda and forget the thing that is giving us the trouble. What us diabetics need is not just less sugar or more sugar substitutes. We need food that contains whole grains, whole wheat flour, rye, not just white flour. Is anyone out there listening?

The only problem with that is that it is very expensive most times to buy whole grains. Here, a loaf of white bread is $1.00 while a good loaf of multi-grain bread with a decent amount of fiber is close to $4! I'm glad you understand exactly what you need so that you can eat healthier.

The latest research shows that walnut eat the human body can be reduced not only "good" cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes on the beta is also very helpful. In recent years, has continued, some studies have shown that eating walnuts every day can reduce blood lipid levels, reducing inflammation and improving blood vessel function. The scientists from Australia's latest experiment has once again demonstrated that patients with diabetes to eat nuts every day can persist in the body,"no good" LDL cholesterol levels 10 percents lower.True.

My cholesterol is all right. It is just that my sugar is high and I have good blood pressure. And I already eat walnuts and almonds. What I want is something in place of sugar for baking because I cannot take artificial sweeteners, that is all right for diabetics.

That is funny how that works isn't it? Even when we buy low-fat or fat free foods. You would think that since sugar is bad for you that they would try to eliminate some of it in low-fat products but they don't. Even low-fat yogurts are full of sugar. So you might be getting the low/fat-free, but sugar is a bad dieting problem which really should be avoided in large quantities. But a Yogurt will have up to 42 grams of sugar per serving. So not really healthy at all in the long run, just the manufacturers messing with our heads trying to make us buy stuff since we think it is healthy for us.

I am listening, and I believe you. I think that is why I am not diabetic, but my mom became diabetic, my older half sister is diabetic, my brother is being watched for diabetes, and my dad is taking oral diabetic meds. Starches and fats are hard on diabetics, just as too much refined sugar is. Long before it became the health fashion I tried to steer clear of white stuff.

I heard that it is the fruitcose corn syrup that was added to everything and we did not know it. They used to use coconut in candy bars but then they changed. So it is not just the straight white sugar. So there are a lot of people turning diabetic who would not have gone years ago. Now my father had it, and it runs in my family and I have the build for it (short, stocky) but when it happens to tall people then one has to worry.

I'm listening - I'm not diabetic but just the opposite but could flip at any time, doesn't help any that diabetes runs in my family. Personally I've noticed a lot of 'stupid' things that are done to foods just like this take one thing out and replace it with chemicals and junk that are just as bad for you. I've really learned a lot reading this discussion though and want to thank everyone.

My husband is a diabetic and I try to think of things like that for him all the time. Once or twice per month, I will get him something like that but he knows it is just a treat and that once or twice a month is not going to contribute to any problems. But for the most part, he will snack on fresh vegetables with a healthy dressing like his favorite raspberry vinegrette. See it isn't about the cookies that you have with your bible study (is it once a week?), it is about your daily intake and how well you're taking care of yourself everyday.

It is about the cookies. If everyone is eating cookies, and that includes all the dos that are on, there has to be something for diabetics. Our bible study is every two weeks, and whenever there is something with my husband I cannot go. I cannot take much flour anyway, but it seems that for twice a month it would not hurt if there are diabetic cookies or squares that do not contain sugar, that do not contain artificial sweetener. I am a great salad, vegetable, and fruit eater but if you go without something for a long period of time, you sort of cheat. I figure if I can eat a diabetic cookie or square once a week at the most, it would not hurt.

you're right about the difference of white and whole flour. In fact, endocrines always tell us to wear fast sugar uprisers when we're out, and what are those uprisers? sugar!!! it's sad that everybody thinks all the matter with diabetes is sugar, and forget that the real problem are carbs. I know of some diabetics in my family that no matter what doctors have told them, still think sugar is the problem and don't reduce white flour bread from their dieat. Also, they don't understand how come I'm diabetic when I had no sweets, candies or sugarful food and that was it, quitted bread (my only vice, must confess) and sugar levels are almost perfect (considering too that I use 2 kinds of insuline). Wish next campaigns to control diabetes make some effort on this matter too. I'm sure there are more type 2's around that don't even know they are.
