I'm guessing that you are not in the UK but regardless there really should be expiry dates on all foods and medicines.
I am a Quality Assurance Manager in a meat cutting plant and food safety is my job - it doesn't matter to me whether it's meat, ice cream or anything.
As a rule, if you have a freezer you should not keep anything for more than one year and if it malfunctions in that time and the food defrosts then you will need to use within three days.
Don't forget that ice cream is made from milk and so will naturally contain lysteria (not necessarily the nasty lysteria but it will be there nonetheless). And lysteria will survive freezing even though it won't multiply and hence won't become harmful but you wouldn't want to risk it.
I hope that you find this to be helpful - any food safety questions you are more than welcome to ask me.

Yes, items that are kept deep frozen actually will decay but at a much slower rate than those kept at higher temperatures.
And don't forget that some food borne bacteria forms spores that can survive anaerobic conditions and only become active under aerobic conditions.

I can't tell you because I have never look out for expiry date on an ice cream. Well, I think there will not be an expiry date if it is kept in Deep Freezer. I mean if anything remians at under -4 degree temparater, it never gets rotten, isn't ti?

As from the previous response,we learn that even deep freezing holds meaning upto an year alone and if it suffers some malfunctions then we have to consume it within three days.So be careful hereafter and don't believe, anything served chilled is not harmful.Cheers!

Each and every food item has its expiry dates. One of my brother is in consumer department. He says that all items, specially the packed ones, for example, sauce, jams, jelly, candies, pickles, ice cremes, packed sweets and noodles has its expiry dates. But it differ from food to food. But in most of the time it is within one and half years from manufactured date.

Yes!We are not able to see any dates like that in cups or scoops. But there should be one on the boxes from which they are taken. The ice creams are expected to be kept in deep freezers but there are times they can be handled with ignorance which may result in fatal.Cheers!

Hello ganesh
As per rules all edible stuff, oils, medicinces has to carry date of manufacture and date of expiry, it is mandatory, punishable if not carried out, branded ice cream like Amul have it, but the cheap ones may not have
Well we don't keep icecream long, we eat soon in a day or two..
