To bend or To Vacuum that is the question

What things would you rather just suck up than bend over and pick up? Things that really ought not be vacuum fodder but you just don't think it is worth the effort to stoop down and pick up the pieces and besides, you excuse the act, if whomever the culprit is that dropped them, really wanted these they would not have left them on the floor to be stepped on and swept up. for me it is little tiny seed beeds from my daughters' crafting and *@#$@! teeny lego pieces that hurt my foot for the umpteenth time #@@!@& of telling them to pick them up! Do you get a private sense of satisfaction as you hear them pling pling up the vacuum hose or do you feel a little guilt because the items do actually have a potential for use? OR do they just get spit out by the vacuum and scattered about the room... hehe.

I will scoop them up with a broom and dustpan. Then once they are picked up I put them out of sight. They think that these items are gone for good. I practiced this when my kids were little and now do it with my grandchildren. They usually pick up after themselves, but on the times that they don't there is always the threat of tossing them out. I tell them that even if I am at their house and find toys on the floor I will pick them up and toss them out. When toys are left on the floor I assume they are no longer wanted.

Great idea kinda what I did to two oldest one time - their bedroom was a tonka truck factory after Christmas and both having birthdays in January. I kept threatening and when they didn't pick up I did and put them all in garbage bags making sure they watched as I carried them out to the garbage can. After they went to bed I went out and got them and stored them under my bed for a couple months. I then started bringing them back out a few at a time.

After several instructions for my teen to clean her room - and her failure to comply - had me going in to do it. She was not allowed to be in there with me. She was forewarned this would happen. I took out more than a garbage bag full for donation (I only threw away damaged items) I hope it made a lasting impression upon her.

kleenex..scattered cat litter..buttons..if it's small enough,it feeds the vacuum. i tell them one to pick it up,if they don't.. i did vacuum up one thing i didn't see the one time-remote batteries. vacuum survived, surprisingly.tore the living out of the brush roller though.but it was under a piece of furniture where i didn't see it.

ohhh cat litter everytime I have tried in the past to vacuum it - it would become a weapon shooting about the room injuring at random and creating such a mess. That is one thing I found easier to sweep up -

i use the hose attachment on it.otherwise it does fling it everywhere. one of my 3 makes the biggest mess with the box,it's so much easier.i swear i could fill a tub and he'd still manage to get it on the floor

I am always afraid that if I suck something hard or too big I'll hurt my vacumn...so I bend to pick that kind of thing up....but being a crafter I lately have kept the vacumn plugged in as I have little scraps of paper that cling to me and drop off when I get downstairs....do they drop off in the craft room? Nope!!! They wait until they can stick to the carpet downstairs....

stubborn paper scraps! you are the wiser one to pick up pieces, and you get the bonus exercise of bending and stretching :)

The dog eats lots of dog biscuits and her eye sight isn't so good and leves hunks on the carpet...I don't pick them up, I use the vac. Isn't that what's its for? LOL! Now,if I saw money on the carpet I would pick that up for sure!

my daughters' beads were recently all over the living room carpet thanks to an emotional dog that was home alone.... I vacuumed them - much to my poor husband's chagrin. He really detested that ping klunk boing sound .
