Ah, and now you come to a topic near and dear to every Canadian's heart ;)
It is said that Canadians put anything on french fries, perhaps this is true, some of my fav's:
- Chili and Cheese (Taco Bell's is pretty good ;))
- Gravy
- Vinegar (cider vinegar is best for this)
- Cheese Curds and Gravy (AKA Poutine)
- mayonaise
- All the topings that would normally go on loaded nachos :D yummy
Some I have seen, not fond of:
- dill pickle spice (my daughter's fav)
- Ketchup (also my daughter's fav LOL)
- Chocolate Milk shake/soft serve icecream, or better yet Wendy's froster (yuck, but some like it, including, you guessed it, my daughter)
- cheese sauce
I can feel my arteries hardening as we speak

I like to put ketchup on french fries most of the time, but when I go to the fair, because it is so hot then, I like to put vinegar on them. Most people want salt on them where I live, but I don't need the salt, normally not that hot here.

If they're really good fries...like with salt or seasoned or battered, I prefer them plain. But steak fries or other thicker fries, I like mixing mayo and mustard...this may be a Maui thing?

Not really. I usually prefer to eat them as they are without adding anything.
I don't eat french fries that much as a rule, but I like them sometimes.
At times I have been known to dip them in gravy, but not as a rule.
On the other hand hubby tends to drown them in everything and then something else LOL

In fact I prefer to just eat the french fries directly without dipping anything. I enjoy the natural taste.
I love China

I think fries is decent enough to dip with ketchup, whether it's going to be tomato or banana.. But sometimes, when I'm at Mcdonalds, I dip my fries with my sundae.. Yea I know, it's kind of weird, but I tell you, it's good..

Usually ketchup, but if I have a tasty sauce of some other sort I would gladly eat it with the fries

Tomato sauce is OK for McDonald's long and spindly "French Fries".
With the real ones (Chips) however, like you find in Belgium, the UK and Australia
you cannot beat salt and vinegar with of course a large piece of deep fried fish.
The chips are much thicker, fried in real fat, extremely unhealthy and absolutely fantastic to eat. The best I have ever tasted was in Darwin.
