Anytime i get on the elevator, as soon as its opened the doors and i get off and step out, i get dizzy and gotta usually lean on someone or something. not good when you got a 13 month old in your arm and you live in a highrise :P
Anyone know why this happens or anything to cure it other then taking the stairs with two small kids.. its rather daunting to think about four floors of cement fire escape stairs with a 2 year old and a 13 month old.. i think i'll pass.. and deal with the dizzies if there is nothing i can do about it!
Thanks to a friend whom gave me the idea for this discussion, Does reading other peoples discussions often give you ideas for your own ?

It's possible that you could be suffering from low blood presure (hypotension). Try increasing your salt intake (quite considerably to something more like 10g a day) as that can increase your blood pressure and will hopefully have an effect even if you naturally are resisitant to the effects of salt.

that's interesting. i've always had lower then normal blood pressure, but nothing to be concerned with.. that i know of. maybe i'll just try being more active and get my blood pumping more often first. i dont like to cook with salt, and i do eat enough of it i think from canned goods and soy sauce.. Thanks for the suggestion, very helpful!

That happened to me when I was pregnant with my second son, before I knew I was pregnant. I'm not saying you're pregnant, though.
It could be an equilibrium problem, something with your middle ear. Maybe you have sinus problems? Congestion? Whenever fluid becomes trapped in our middle ears, we can experience vertigo or dizziness because that's where our little equilibrium gizmo is located.
If it keeps up, I'd advise seeing your doctor about it. If there is no obvious cause, it should be investigated because it could get worse. I suffer from vertigo and my doctor said something about crystals in my middle ear so he's sending me to an ear, nose and throat specialist.
I sometimes get ideas from other discussions but usually they just pop into my head at the strangest times. One night, I was almost asleep when an idea popped into my head and I couldn't get to sleep until I came in here, logged into myLot and wrote the discussion. That's usually how mine come about.

I seen a show on those crystals!! they have a chair that they put you into and it spins around and gets the crystals moving on outta there so the dizzies go away!!
i sure am not preggo, lol my tubes where tied 13 months ago during the c section.. but thats a whole other discussion.
i will talk to doc about it next time i go.

I had my tubes tied with my second son's birth, too. He was also a C-section. Small world, huh?
As for that spinning chair, that doesn't sound like fun at all! The last time I was on a roller coaster (way back when my youngest was 4 years old... he's 25 now), I almost didn't make it without losing lunch! I can't see me liking that spinning chair any more than that roller coaster! Thanks for the warning!! LOL

Concentrating on your breathing may help, it can be used in various relaxation exercises and may just help when you are travelling in an elevator, remember to breath in deep and slow and breath out, by relaxing your breathing you are much calmer and you should become more used to the movement of the lift. I think worrying is the main issue, do you worry at all, because worrying can cause anxiousness, and anxiousness leads to dizziness, sweating and panic attacks etc.

I don't know why you get dizzy when you step off of the elevator. I don't get dizzy but when I am on the elevator and it first move my stomach always drops and I feel like I am going to throw up.
I rarely go on an elevator anymore. Only when I absolutely have to. If there are stairs and not too many, I will walk the stairs. I think for me it is my ears that are the problem. I have something wrong with my inner ears, doctors have given up trying to figure it out, and anything different like an elevator moving, makes me have an attack, I go deaf in my left ear, and I get sick to my stomach.
So I try to stay away from elevators as much as I can, along with a lot of other things that bother my inner ears.

Sweetie, I think your blood pressure may need some tweaking. It probably lowers to much in an elevator, with the change in elevation. Go to the doc. Tell her all about it and she'll probably give you some blood pressure medicine. Don't neglect this, Sissy. Mama knows best.

Hey Sissy! I think that you should definitely speak to your
doctor! You may have some sort on imbalance that is in
your inner ear! I have that and sometimes it can be triggered
by different things! It effects your equilibrium (balance).
You need to talk to your doctor and see him for an examination
to be sure. It is very possible that the movement of the
elevator is doing this to you! It could be the pressure and
the movement that is affecting your balance in your inner
ear. Just go to the doctor and get it checked!

I was thinking the same thing.. cause its not the only weird thing that happens to me that involves my inner ear, my right ear soemtimes (mostly in the winter) feels like its "clogged" is the best word to discribe it, or like there is water in there or osmething, my own voice seems really loud, and it takes a long time to go away and its very annoying!

I think this happens because of the shift in the ground. your body is rising and falling unnaturally. The same thing happens to some people when they are driving quickly up a mountain road, or down one. I don't have that problem, but it makes sense why some would/

Yes actually....when I read a discussion sometimes it triggers a memory or something I had thought of a day or two ago... I don't know about the dizziness...must be something in your inner ear or something to do with your blood pressure going up and down...

Hi Sissygrl, are you talking about lifts by any chance? Dreadful things, but luckily there's only one I ever need to use as my shopping trolley won't go up the escalator.
Four floorsThat's really bad. Okay here's what you need to do, find a handy responsible 10 year old who is still fascinated by the ghastly things and send him up in the lift with the toddler, pram etc, if he's very responsible you could even send the baby up in said pram, then run up the stairs yourself as your daily exercise and meet them as the doors open. Now the ten year old may still be fascinated by lifts so much he might not require payment at all but if he does a few jelly beans should do the trick.
I actually find writing responses to my own discussions give me the new ideas. So tell me how do you feel when someone comes along and revives a 5 month old discussion you'd completely forgotten about?
