Thanks for this great money saving tip.
I had forgotten to turn off my modem
last night. I'm sure that my modem
still uses electricity even when my
computer is not own.

Yes, I turn it off as soon as I turn off PC, it's useless to let it on. waste electricity and wasting more bytes.
More worse, there two type ADSL connection in here, base on volume and time, a lot of people using time based did not realize that turning off the PC without the modem will charge them all the time.
With time based, users have to turn off the modem.

But of course!
I see no reason to leave the internet connection (modem/router) on when my computer is already switched off. I only leave it on when I know there are other people in the house who are still using the wireless internet.
Otherwise, I off them both together. Like you said, no reason at all to waste good energy that is not free on our pockets.

Yup, it is best to check that no one is using the internet before shutting down the modem/router.
PS.: Isn't surfing through the phone quite expensive, not to mention slow to boot?

Sometimes I use my cellphone to access internet but my husband doesn't know it, then he shuts down the internet connection after using it. And I complain about it. So right now when we turn off the internet connection, we will say it to each other at first

Do you turn offf the power and everything or do you just shut it down? I usually just shut mines down. It will be nteresting to see what others say about it, I am going to read more of this. Good question. Have a good week ahead!

i turn off everything when i am not using it. even the washing machine i unplugged it. the tv i unplugged it. i know that it is still consuming electricity when it is plugged. and there are some cases of fire because of electric appliances plugged that sparks and cost fire. i dont like to take the risk so i pull the plug if in not use

Of course, I will turn off the internet. I am scared of the spam thing that will stay in my computer if I will not turn off the computer. I had the idea that the virus will crawl LOL. Sorry little knowledge.

We can't turn our internet connection off here in our house because I and my husband uses a wireless internet connection. We have an antenna located outside the house and that gets the signal. I only turn the laptop off but not in a sleep mode. Anytime I need to chat with my husband at work, I do not need to turn on everything again. I guess this is not a waste of energy because I use the laptop from time to time and whenever I get awake at night. My baby wakes up every 5 hours so I use to check a chat from my husband who works at night.

I have internet connection at my place.
I have a spike guard where everything is connected.
So when I turn on my computer then everything is turned on including modem.
So whenever I am switching my computer off I am also switching off my internet connection by switching off modem.

Likewise, every night before I go to bed I shut down my computer and turn off the internet once I have unplugged everything, I see no sense of leaving in on or on standby, besides it's not good to keep it running 24/7, it can easily overheat and waste electricity. It doesn't take long to turn it on again in the morning again.

hi youless i have wifi in my home and usually shut it down when ever i dont need it and shut down my laptop but there are times when i get lazy or forget to turn wi fi off or i sleep while still on laptop and dont turn it off. I should off it as i dont have a password ( couldnot set it) and anyone outside the home can use it too and also with so many cases of people sending mails using unprotected wifi and the owner ending up in jail, i think i should be careful.
