I have a question for MyLotters. I had heard on the radio the other day that the ACLU is setting on over $500,000,000 in funding. The ACLU does not officially report the sources of its donations. Does anyone know who it is that is funding this organization. I do not really think that it is funded by any real grass roots source as even most of liberal friends think the ACLU is really out there on many of its high profile cases. I know that many foundations provide funding but who is it behind this that provides this huge amount of money?

I don't know a lot about how it is funded or by who, I know they have attornies who volunteer. I have mixxed feeligns about the ACLU, they support some disgusting causes, but sometimes they do go after some good ones, I'm a libertarian type myself and am deeply concerend with the preservation of the constitution. I just wish they wouldn't be so extreme in what they support sometimes, because they could be an organization for a lot of good if they propperly focuses their efforts and stopped helping pedophiles and such.

X, if you look at some of the cases (as a libertarian) you will agree with the vast majority of them. If you look at them as a partisan than you will think they a liberal poltical action committee. You know as well as I do that you can spin anything you want, any way you want, and many on the right on radio are amazing at spinning something to suite their needs. The ACLU actually defends the constitution no matter who the person is, no matter who the group is, no matter what party they are, their goal is to defend the constitution for all Americans. This is why so many in the livertarian party donate the ACLU, but will never tell anyone.

I have sent money to the ACLU, if you do some research about the group you will see that they have actually worked on both sides of the isle to help protect the constitution of the United States. Many of the case that they take on for republicans you never hear about, because it doesn't suite their political needs. They are a non profit, so they don't have to disclose their funds (much like a church, or a charity). If you look at some of the cases that they have fought you might think differently about them. But, if you listen to right wing hate radio, you will never know the truth (there are always two sides to every story).

Wealthy politicians! For the most part anyways a few private citizens who have prospered from their action.
The only people I have seen helped in my area by unions are the ones who don't know how to work. I know business men stuck with a bunch of bad employees who they can't get rid of and they can give raises to the ones who work their butts off because of the union going after them telling them that they have to give a raise to all the other people who may have seniority over that other individual. One of these places where the unions have gone out of control is my grandmother's nursing home.
It's killing the economy here. The factories have to employ through employment agencies to have an out to prevent everyone from being protected under the Unions, so they stand a chance to weed out the bad employees. Which means if you are switching from one factory to another you must work for next to nothing for three months before being bumped up and so a lot of people who are good hard workers can't afford to leave one company for another and take the pay cut for a short time in order to come out with a better job in the end. (I have a friend who this was a reality for) But as I said that is just what I've seen... All the employee has to do is look at their job description. If they are asked to sweep the floor and it's not in their job description they don't have to do it. Then a lot of times the supervisors have to watch the clock to mark the bad employees as late so many times so they can legally fire them. I know someone right now who's put on that watch list.
Anyway you didn't ask for that rant... But yeah it takes more than grass roots to save up that kind of dough... especially with the amount the ACLU spend.

I NEVER contribute to these types of conversations because it's usually a lose-lose for everybody. However, in this case, I HAVE to inject my small bit. When the ACLU first started, it was ABSOLUTELY the #1 protector of our Constitution. Over the years, and particularly the last 5 decades, there has been a complete lack of common sense in the cases where they chose to make a fight! Indeed, on some of them, they were in the attacker mode. I'm no politico, and can't document any specifics, as I have to work for a living. However I deal in black and white. For me and countless other Americans, there should be NO gray areas in our Constitution!! It should not be "interpreted" by people at EITHER end of the political spectrum. That document is sacred!! It was written by men MUCH, MUCH smarter than any of the politicians of today....
Since Ronald Reagan, there has been NOBODY with even a spec of common sense in ANY leadership position. It is my humble opinion that ALL of the politicians in POWER today should be voted out, and replaced with people who have been gifted with some common sense. The NUMBER ONE objective of ANY politician should be to legislate as little as possible. The Congress and Senate should be PART TIME jobs. Most state legislatures are run for TWO MONTHS!!! There is NO reason why the Congress and Senate can't do their business in 3-4 months. When they are in session, our country is in mortal DANGER...
If it's true that the ACLU is sitting on $500,000,000 they have been bought out. I won't presume to know who the buyers are, but I have a solid opinion. That much money was NOT raised by "grass roots" people. It was corporate money, money from rich people with a political agenda, AND money from FOREIGN governments....
