How many pages should a resume be...

Many employers today are looking for the excellent resume. Before you can have an excellent resume, you have to know the proper length. So my question to you is, what is the appropriate length a resume to should be?

I was always told that for something entry level you want to keep it short and weet, about one page. For a professional job when you have more experience in the field, that is when it is ok to make it longer.

I was told in class that a good resume always fits on one page, never more.
