I bought this pc of mine when i started my high school on a science school. It is a preparation for myself to learn basic computer techniques then. And up to now, i am still using this, it is 4 years already and still its quite working well. I'll appreciate if my parents would buy me a new laptop but rather than a pc, because i am sure ill be missing this pc. I got all my files locked up on this. And i think, this thing has many things that could help me remember my high school days wherein fact i still dont want to forget.

It sounds like it is still working for you and that is great. I hope mine lasts that long too. It seems to be doing really good so far but I could use a new mouse for sure, I have just been lazy about it. Take care and happy mylotting to you as well.

It has been 26 years since I came to this world and I hvae purchased only one computer which now I am working on. So, for me the answr to your question is 5 years because I bought this pc 5 years ago in Aug 2004. Long time isn't it? But now I can see that the same configuration is available in Rs 15K only while I bought this at Rs 26K!

Oh one or two hints I can also give you: Don't use high resolution on your desktop. Install "Tune up utility" program.

2 years old is nothing. If you want it to be faster, upgrade some parts. There is absolutely no good reason to ditch it for a newer model. I built my current computer back in 2005 and the only major changes have been a bigger hard drive, more memory, and a better video card. I'm still using the same AMD Athlon X2 3800 CPU that I built it with. Unless you're willing to shell out serious money, you're not going to find a new computer that will be much better than your 2 year old machine. Why aren't you satisfied with your current computer?

Well I just want to be able to surf a little faster I have Road Runner but I do not have the best speed though, I was thinking about upgrading but than I do not want to spend more a month on internet service it is in my budget and I really do not have much room for more on the internet service. I wish I knew how to upgrade on my own but I do not, I know I would have to pay some money to have it done unless you might have some ideas, I have twearked a few things to make it faster but to me it is still not fast enough. Happy mylotting to you.

If your only issue is the speed that you browse the web than buying a new computer is not likely to change that. The number one way to speed up your internet is to pay for a faster connection. You can also get a bit more speed by running a disk cleanup and clearing cookies and temporary files from your web browser. If you're using Internet Explorer, try using Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html or Opera http://www.opera.com/ There is very little hardware in your computer that would have a significant effect on your web browsing so a new computer is not the answer.

Maybe it's the environmentalist in me but I wouldn't get a new computer unless this one was completely obsolete. This one isn't even mine, it's my fiance's parents. In any case, I would say wait because computers do become obsolete sooner or later, and then again, if it's not broke why upgrade? As long as it does the things you need it to... Hmm on a side note, I'd say every ten years.

Ten years that seems like a long time but hey if this one works that long I will keep it. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my discussion and happy mylotting as well.

I try and get a new computer every 3 years. Software programs change rapidly and a computer cannot cope.

WEll I was thinking that too but to me I can not really afford to payout every three years for a new one. I might rent to own mine again but that was really hard to do. Take care and thanks for taking the time to respond to my discussion.

I'm getting a computer like once every 5 years. lol! I'm just on my second computer. lol! I don't really get one unless it's really really old and if only when the newe applications are making it slow. As long as i can use it and it works perfectly fine, then i won't replace it yet. As long as it is still serving it's purpose. You know, i'm not really much into games so i really don't need a very powerful computer.

Oh!! God!!I prefer using old things. I prefer those thing with which I get used to. I just configure my PC on every alternate six months. The desktop that I am using is three years old. I don't like changing things every now and then.I would like to change my things on every alternate months. But at last of everything, money matters.

I don't get a new too often because I cannot afford to, but if I could probably would get one every year. I have had 5 computers total, two were found in the trash and were perfectly good. I have only had two brand new computers and I had each of them for about 5 years.

Cool you found 2 computers in the trash that work, that is awesome. I have picked in the trash in the past and I have found some great things too. Take care and thanks for taking part in my discussion and happy mylotting to you as well.

Well, I don't think that everybody does what I do. I have 2 desktop computers. One for my upstairs (in my office) and one in my living room downstairs. I also just bought a new laptop. I would say that I buy a new computer every 2 to 3 years. The computer downstairs was actually built for me by my husband's nephew. It locked up on me, and I had it rebuilt (or fixed...) by someone else. That is the computer that I will replace when I buy a new desktop. I think that more technical people would see no need in having to buy a new computer, because they know how to clear out the stuff you no longer need, or add new memory, etc. But I am not techincal....plus I just like upgrading every so often. I would say I have had 6 or more computers since I bought my first one years ago.

Oh I would have more than one but it is not in my budget at the moment. I bought a laptop back in Feb but it did not work out for me so I took it back. It was not working well and it is was brand new so I thought I better take this back before the time is up. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my discussion and happy mylotting to you Toofancy.

I change my pc every year it goes againist my tax so I can claim it againist my business so the tax man doesnt get hold of it lol, altho I 9 times out of ten just upgrade my pc and can get the exact spec for a fraction of the retail price. Also none of this inferior onboard graphics etc etc that usually comes with high street pc's.

The computer i am using right now is just a year old, before that i've used the previous computer for 6 years, and changed it because the amd athlon 2200+ heated like an oven and cooling it was definetely noisy. Now i have a 45w amd 4850e and i cannot hear the difference from it being on or off.

Mine is just one year old but I had my previous computer about 5 years. It's so expensive to buy a new one, I usually do software side tweaking when my PC becomes older.

Software tweak sounds like a good idea. How can you do that? Let me know thanks. Oh and thanks for taking part in my discussion and happy mylotting to you as well.

Well, I just bought a New Home computer, so I can say that it has only been a short time since I last updated. My other one would not play the Sims 2, so I knew it was time to get a better computer. But that one was 4 yrs. old, so I had had it quite a while, and it still does work well. The thing is Computers are getting so Cheap anymore, I think a lot of it, is what you are needing and looking for that constitutes what works Best for everyone as well.

I've had my laptop for almost four years now. I got it after I graduated highschool and started college. It was a birthday gift for me so I could have a computer to do my online classes on and type up all of my papers without spending all of my time in the computer library. I have no plans to get another computer any time soon unless this one kicks the bucket. I probably should get another one soon though, I can't burn CDS from my computer anymore.

Cool I am glad to hear a laptop would last that long. I got a laptop earlier this year and I thought I would really like a laptop but this one I had I did not like at all. I like my desktop better so I took it back for a refund. Anyway what are you going to school for online? I have been thinking about doing that myself but I have not decided on for what yet. Take care and thanks for responding to my discussion.
10 Jun 09
I generally use a computer until it breaks or the hardware inside can no longer cope with the software and operation system. This happened to me earlier this year when my 4 year old laptop was taking so long to do anything because the hardware was so old it could no longer cope and was not worth the cost of trying to update the components. Although I have now replaced it with a much more powerful machine I have kept my old laptop, reformatted it and basically have it there as a back up machine just in case.

I've never bought a new computer. Mine have only been from friends or finds in the local paper and craigslist. The one I'm using now I've been using for a couple of years now and only have $100 in it.

I don't get a new computer unless something happens to it and I need a new one. The last laptop I had, I gave to my grandson as his went bad. I then went and bought the laptop I am using now. I bought it in January of this year and it is a gateway. I really like it as it is the first gateway I have ever owned. I have had to reformat this not to long ago, as it got hacked into, and got messed up. So far so good since I reforated. I will keep this computer as long as possible, and if something goes wrong with it, then I will repalce it. I think sometimes it is better to buy a new one versus fixing them as parts are so expensive.

4 May 09
That is what I was thinking too about computer parts. A gateway huh how is that working for you I have not heard about them too much anymore, I know they were really popular a few years ago, it seems everyone owns dells I do not care for them myself. Thanks for your input and happy mylotting to you as well.
