I've been working on a new story for sometime now, and I was hoping I wouldn't get stuck if I new exactly where I wanted the story to go. That soooo didn't work, and now I know where I'm trying to get my story, but I have no idea how to get there. What helps you get over WB?

I really don't know, but the thought I had was that since you know where you are going, and where you are... maybe you could go to the end and work backwards from there. Kinda like filling in the gap only backwards! You're stuck trying to go forward, so try it the other way!!

One of the best techniques I was ever taught for writers block was called free writing by one of my teachers. They told us to just grab a piece of paper and get a timer and set it for something like 10 minutes. Then, after the timer is set, pick up your writing utensil and start writing. You don't need to have perfect spelling and gramar, what you are writing doesn't need to make a lot of sense either. The point of free writing is just to get ideas flowing. It's meant to get your brain thinking about what you want to write. And going back over it and reading what you have written is forbidden. Even if for most of the time, what you are writing is something like, "I am out of ideas" is OK because at least you are thinking and getting started. When the timer stops you are to stop writing and then you can reread what you have written. Then you can see what types of ideas you came up with during the free write time period. If you liked something that you wrote, you have the chance to touch base with it and explore that idea further.

Sorry to hear you've got the case of the WB...that stinks. Anywho, I too LOVE to write and there are times when I know I want to write, but I don't know what. So, what I do is listen to as much music I can...you'd be amazed on what goes through your head when you're focused on something else like that. Hope it works. *Pleiades

People have different methods to overcome writer's block, and so do I. I'm a writer, and a journalist also. You know, it is hard for a working class writer to perform a good writing due to tight deadline coming from their job. Don't worry, this is the art. Working under pressure sometimes push us to revel our live - while pursuing our dreams - in a creative way. As an Eastern people, I employ traditional customs: meditation. Conducting mediation for a while - it can be few minutes, or even hours - before and after writing really helps me to discover new ideas and fulfill my duty as an employee, and my career as a writer. Hopefully, my method also works with you.
