Have your cats ever caught the flu?

My cats go outside lots and catch small birds and rodents. They recently picked up a flu-like virus that made them very nauseous and they had no appetite for several days. I brought them to the vet and he gave them some medicine to keep them hydrated and help them recover. He said that the virus shows up every 4 or 5 years and makes cats and dogs sick all over the region he covers (he serves about a 300km area as we live in a very remote part of ontario) Has your pet ever encountered something like this?

I've had cats catch upper resperitory infections - a lot, but never anything like what you are talking about.

Do you know the source of the respiratory infection? I'm curious as one of my cats is allergic to something. She has these little coughing fits sometimes.

honestly, I think the URIs are infections, I knew a cat with allergies, he actually had meds for them, different than the URI

I would have to say no but my cats are indoor cats, they do not go outside at all so I doubt they would catch such a flu. Than again you never know I thank you for sharing this in case I see them getting sick. Now I have to say I think my dog got sick a copule of weeks ago but other than that I have not had any problems. TAke care and happy mylotting to you.

My parents' dog caught it too. She likes to catch small birds that come to their feeder and they think she got it from there. Glad to hear that your dog recovered well. Happy mylotting to you too!

We used to have a cat when I was young but I never remember it ever getting the flu or any type of flu virus. Interesting thought though.
