I have lots of things planted in my gardens this year. One of the new ones is cabbage this year. This photo shows the 6 plants I planted this weekend. Have you ever grown cabbage? Is it any more work than other veggies?

I have some cabbage seeds that a friend sent me but I haven't planted them because I have no idea what to do with cabbage! Do you have any suggestions? I've never eaten much of it but I hear it's very good for you.

It can be used for making cole slaw. Can be used in salads like lettuce as well. Also cabbage rolls are great. Also can be bnoiled and eaten that way. Many uses actually.

cabbage rolls are so delicious. There is also a French Canadian recipe where you braise finely chopped cabbage with apples and well drained sausage pieces and a bit of butter, salt and pepper and a shot of good quality vinegar

I had really good luck with cabbage last year. My granddaughter gave me a plant they grew from seed in school, so I planted it in my garden last year and got two cabbages from it. It was very good.
This year my grandson did the same thing in school and I allready planted in my garden and the cabbage plant is doing good. My tomatoes were planted last week also.

Well you have some things anyhow.
I love my huge yard.
Some people think in a few years the whole backyard will be veggies as opposed to grass etc. HAHAHAHA!

We always grew cabbage in our garden when I was a child. But to be honest I don't remember anything about how they were to grow. Dad always assigned us kids a few rows that we were responsible for and mine was never cabbage. I love cabbage but always wish I had cooked it at the neighbors house rather than stinking up my own kitchen. Ppppp.Uuuuuu!!

All I am worried about is bugs and
or worms destroying them right now.

Yes, you should be worried about cut worms right now. I used to grow cabbages when I had a garden and lost some of them right after planting to cut worms. You could make a tube of aluminum foil to surround the little plants or protect them by putting empty toilet paper rolls around them until they are strong. Later on you have to worry about the white butterflies. They want to lay their eggs on the cabbages, producing these green caterpillars who have voracious appetites. Check the undersides of the leaves and remove the orange coloured egg clusters or the caterpillars if they have hatched. Otherwise these cabbages are wonderful. Much better than the store bought ones.

I've never grown cabbage personally. I've never had a big enough garden for growing veg, but I did grow some salad stuffs once. I grew lettuce, tomatoes, radishes and onions. I would love to be able to just pop out to the garden and cut my dinner, but I've never had the space. Hence, my garden is all flowers, heathers and shrubs, with a lawn so that I can sit out and enjoy the warmth and the aroma of the blossoms.
Brightest Blessings.

I have never grew a garden but I have been interested in learning here recently. I would love to grow my own cabbage because I absolutely love cabbage. Just an added bonus that is good for me!

I have not planted cabbage but I think it would be a veggie I would like to try to grow. I will have to do some homework and see if that's viable for me to try here as we have maybe a 4month growing season tops so if it grows slowly it may not be a good idea for us to try. Thanks for the idea though... I hope you have plenty of coleslaw & cabbage rolls ect in your future ;)

Cabbage is easy it is not any harder than anything else. I usually put in about 20 plants or so each year..I usually make a lot of home made Cole slaw, and then i lit some of it get real big and i make cabbage rolls, that i freeze for all year.
I wish that i had a good recipe for sour crout, because i would can some.

It's impressive you are planting and gardening the yard. But for the proper crop growth, you must save it from damage and pest. You can cover it with bird netting and make it safe from birds and pests attack on it.
