I have to ask....because I am a telemarketer and I must say it is not my most favorite thing to do with my day. But I do work for a very good company.
But I don't sell anything. I call on behalf of non-profit organizations to collect donations or recruite volunteers...
I have to know... How many of you myLotters HATE when I call your house??

I realize that telemarketers are just doing their jobs when they call, and I am polite to them unless they are not polite to me. Generally, I try to tell them right away that I cannot be made to be interested in what they are selling, nor do I have the money to be interested or make donations.
The problem is getting a word in edgewise. As I said, I want to tell them that I won't be a customer and I know that every minute they spend talking to me is a minute they might spend talking to someone who would make them a sale, and therefore, a commission.
I think it's the smooth talking and rapid-fire delivery of telemarketers that make most people wary. The ones who won't take "no" for an answer are the ones we hate.

Hello Rollo1
I have to totally agree with you,
it is the pressure that makes people annoyed.

It depends on where they are from. If it is from a survey company then I do not like it. I remember getting calls from the same company day after day and and they kept calling me at dinner time. The last time it happened I said why don't you give me your name and phone number and I will be sure to call you back while you are eating dinner.
I do not mind the non-profit calls because I try to give money when I can. I always donate to the Salvation Army and the Toys for Tots drive.

Only those who keep persisting even after I have told them "I'm not interested" for a second or third time. Do they really think someone with respond to there pitch after they have made them really mad?

I handle telemarketers like I do anyone else in life. If they are polite and have a good attitude I have no problem listening to them and then deciding what I want to do. But there are some...just as there are in every walk of life that are flat out smart elics! Those make me mad! LOL Otherwise I don't have a problem with them. Nothing wrong wih working as a telemarketer. I did it a few years ago for a while. I made decent money doing it. It's not as easy as people think it is though...that I do know! Good Luck with your job and be nice whn you call me! LOL

Well, Telemarketers are not my favorite people. I always feel bad when they call and I am not interested. I sometimes listen for a while and then say "I'm sorry, I'm not interested" and hang up, but if I can't get a word in, I just hang up. I know they are just doing their job, but if I say I am not interested, and they keep talking, I don't know what else to do. Sometimes if they call me late at night, I do let them know what time it is and then hang up. I know there are different time zones, but I think they should know where they are calling. Anything after 8:00 p.m. is rude in my book.
