I often get nice scolding from my Dad for my huge sleeping hours and the schedule. I generally sleep late at night and get up late, for which, dad becomes very furious. For me, 8-9 hrs of sleep is a must, but I have heard people say that a young man should not sleep more than 6 hours a day.
What is your belief? How much time should One reserve for sleeping??

To be on the safe side atleast 6. as a what you in commonmouth called "mental breakdown" and some other mentalillness.
It´s not that you can get these anyway and sleeping less than 6 for the indiviual might just work for them induvidial. And sleeping more will NOT make you "safer".
But to little sleep can trigger them...

I think you have given the most precise time for a healthy sleep. Many of my elders have suggested me the same figure. A "+" to you for this !
Thanks for the post!!

You can allow him to sleep for long sometimes. Even I have set my own record of sleeping for about 16 hours continuously on a holiday when I were in school

i do not count on how many hours of sleep i had every night. sometimes i have more, sometimes i have sleep. it will just depend on how much i feel i need to sleep. when i feel that my mind could not sleep and could not take any more sleep, i will just usually get up and do things. specially when i have wake too early like 3 am, i will just turn on my computer and keep myself busy.

I like to sleep as much as possible as some times I cannot sleep at all. I find myself staying awake late at night and waking up early which is very strange to me. I really like sleeping in late on the weekends when my girlfriend doesn't have to go to work. I say if you're a teenager, you should get 6-8 hours of sleep per night.

Yeah, we have the same problem! My dad always scolds me for sleeping too much (including 3-hour-long afternoon "naps"); because then, he says I can't get much done if I do that =(... and I think he's kind of right... when I overdose on my sleep, I feel much more groggy throughout the day... but around 6-8 hours of sleep per night and a 15-minute nap during the day revs me up and gets me going! But I think sleep patterns vary from person to person... only you know when you're getting too much or too little sleep, because then, it affects your daily function...

if by young man you mean a man in puberty (this applys to girls for that matter) they may actually "need" a bit more sleep. Seeing that the body and mind is working overtime during that period. And actually needing more rest...

Sleeping to much or to little is bad for the body. Generally the rule is minimum 6 hours of sleep max 8. I get approx. 4-5. This disscussion has made me sleepy it's midnight here in Canada and my time to sleep. Goodnight
