Through My Child's Eyes

There are a lot of different quotes around that are very deep about how we should try to view the world through the eyes of a child to experience true joy or wisdom or whatever. So here is what I see when I look at the world around me through the eyes of my own children (my daughter is 4 years old and my son is 20 months old):
Everything is a blank canvas (the walls, the floors, the TV, the Fish tanks, the doors, mommy, my sibling) which I MUST cover in crayon, chalk and (if I can get it) magic markers, pen, juice and milk.
We don't need a bath!
I didn't do it, doesn't matter that you saw me do it, it wasn't me!
If I want it, I want it NOW and nobody else should have it!
Through my daughter's eyes:
Pineapple Juice is good for my brother's hair so I will be helping him when I fill my mouth with it from my sippy cup and then spray it all over my brother's head.
Daddy is a walking coin machine, stuffed animal repairer and paper airplane maker.
Mommy is a walking restaurant and my personal waitress.
Mommy's clothes will look nice covered in magic marker - actually EVERYTHING looks better after I have colored on it, including my baby brother's face!
I MUST ride the dog like a horse!
Couch cushions belong on the floor.
Through my son's eyes:
Everything MUST go in my mouth except for food, THAT goes on the floor.
The TV really DOES look better after I have colored all over it, and so does everything else!
I love milk so much I think I should use it to paint EVERYTHING in this room!
My big sister needs me to hit her and pull her hair, it's for her own good.
It's fun to jump on mommy's belly and daddy's nards!
I think I can fly, let me show you as I climb on top of this piece of furniture and gracefully dive face down to the floor! Wanna see it again?
Dogs ears are for pulling, it's good exercise! Cats tails serve the same purpose.
???
If you are a parent, what do YOU see when you try to see the world as your kids do?
Even if you're not a parent, have you ever tried to see the world the way a child might?
What did you see? Did you know my house is an art gallery? Pretty much every square inch is covered in "art"!

at this moment, believe me I feel like hugging those wonderful children you describe so well and I am feeling kind of sad as my own boy is now almost 10 and more of a brat really!
Anyway, thru his eyes IF I MUST:
Why must I study every evening?
Why must I go to school everyday? (never mind if mommy goes to office everyday)
Why cant I have all those good things that all my friends have (no matter I have certain things better)
Why cant I follow the latest trend in clothes?
I don’t want to eat veggies, boiled eggs (give me scrambled in butter), fish, fruits, cereals…..GIVE ME MY LAYS ALL VARIANTS ALL TIME
Wasn’t I magnanimous enough to give you (me) the net yesterday evening, why are you back again today!
Haven’t I got good marks in my last test and doesn’t that entitle me to the latest game CD (stop being such a miser, nobody’s mommys are so miserly)
I know where you keep your spare coins….
Mommy is the best nanny for free…morning to night!
ALL GIRLS ARE DUMB (INCL. MUMMY…SEE HOW I TWIST HER AROUND MY LIL FINGER)
Regarding Daddy…oh he’s a kid really, doesn’t need much handling, will do whatever I say (typically father’s son)
Believe me Marianne, they are so much fun yet a big enigma to have around and its indeed a super pleasure to be a mother.

this discussion deserves a BEST rating for taking us all down memory lane and for giving a sneak peak into what’s in store for those of us who’s not there yet!

Sudipta, thank you for a peek into the near future! There is a universal truth to be discovered in this discussion: No matter where in the world you are, your kids will bring you the greatest joy in life while driving you completely crazy!
My daughter is already on the "give me chips and cookies all the time" thing. She thinks if she takes two bites of "healthy stuff (real food) that she has earned the right to eat a half a ton of junk food.

AWWWWWWWWWWW I remember those days so well!!!! and I never thought that I would ever miss them! It's funny, but while all that stuff is going on, you believe that nothing will ever change and they will always see things exactly like that way.. where you are the hero that saves the day no matter what.. cause you are mommy! and dad is a god.. there isn't anything he can't will to happen that doesn't manafest!
But those days drift away so fast.. when ya least expect it..
Through my son's eyes (he is 19) The world is mine and I'm smart enough to have it all! Mom and dad are old fashioned and close minded but I still like talking to them for laughs.. I am independent and who needs advice? Life is sweet! cars, girls, and music! all mine!
Through my daughter's eyes (she is 17) I am the only girl in the world who's parents are complete morons! The world still scares me but I think in time I can learn to navigate myself around it and do what makes me happy. the cute guy in study hall.. what my friends do is IMPORTANT.. homework? what's that?! never do today what ya can do next week... or never! My belongings never need picked up... I like em laying in the floor if you touch them you will have a fight on your hands! THE PHONE!!!! sleep overs, hanging out, got plenty of time for the boring stuff.. I want to play!
Through my son's eyes( he is 15) GIRLS! GUITAR! nothing else exists! lol!
Mare, I LOVE this discussion! this deserves an award!

I'm glad you like my discussion! Thanks for filling me with dread of what my own kids will be like as teens - I was horrible at that age so I know Karma is going to have a grand ole time at my expense in ten years!

I got a chuckle out of this because it's so real. Some of this brought me back to 10 years ago, other to yesterday. Kind of have the ages spread out here. What my entire house boils down to is this:
I don't know
I you didn't tell me
He/She did it
You aren't so I'm not
Anything that happens here pretty much falls under these 4 things. I think it's programed into them or something.
You didn't tell me not to give the dog bubble gum. I don't know who threw all my clothes under my bed. He/she spilled this or that. You aren't going to bed so I'm not going to.
It's a vicious cycle and somedays I loose.

i don't have kids of my own, but i have a few funny kid stories.
when my second cousin was about 2 her grammy took her to the ATM machine to get some cash. when hannah saw the machine spit out money, hannah proclaimed "hannah wants money in her hands, too! big ones!"
my husbands grand daughter vanished into the bed room with her dog one day. this is not unusual so no one thought much of it. when she came out the dog had lipstick, eye makeup, and blush as only a 4 year old can apply it. when her daddy got a towel to wipe it off she said "no daddy, this is the first time he has ever been pretty!"
i used to work in a day care center, with 1-3 year olds. most kids will go through a phase where they call all adults they know mommy or daddy. so this little guy comes running as fast as he can yelling at me "momomomomomoooomomoom!" i said "honey, i am not your mom". he looked at me for a second, very puzzled, and said "dad?"
