Yes it is true, I agree.
Computers without softwares are useless because every thing you want to do we require some software to do it.
Even for doing simple documentation we might require word, excel, etc.
Still with operating system we get notepad and word pad but we rarely use them.
For listening music and surfing internet we have to agree because there are some softwares which are far better then the softwares which are provided with operating system.

I actually use notepad extremely frequently, for everything from use as a very basic and simple text editor to writing code from scratch and saving it in whatever format I want. I also tend to open other files or file formats with notepad as a quick-to-load program to look through the code (the full programming studios take too long to load if I'm just looking to see a specific thing quickly). There are times when the simplicity is nice.
I do agree, though, that for a lot of the things, like music and web browsing, there are much, much better programs than are included in the OS.

Computer equipment is the most complex among the other equipment. Every hardware need to rule a software instructions. The cooperation of the software and hardware to gain the maximum performance without restriction. There are many software that has been circulating, and the various purposes which can be done by computer. If you remember, before computer not have the software it's only using lamp as code.
From day to day, the computer continues to grow and become a very powerful engine. Therefore, I agree to the computer will not be able to work without the hardware and software. Antiquity with the computer nowadays, have been far different. Use a bigger time in the past, now can be reduced to billions of times faster.

yes absolutely correct.
without a software a computer is really waste.
we can throw it into garbage.
for instance,if i need to watch a particular movie of AVI format,it needs a software to play those type of movies.
and an other one "for controlling our mobile by putting it into system using data cabke it needs a sofware too.
nice discussion.
bye

i think computers will be of no use if there were no softwares installed in it. you really cant do much anything with it if the OS is the one thing installed with the computer.

A computer without any software at all, including the OS, is useless /as a computer/. I have seen a software-less old school IBM used quite effectively as a doorstop at a Gateway store before, though. ;)
A computer with only an OS installed could still potentially be quite useful. First, if someone has the knowledge of how to program, it'd be time consuming, but certainly possible for them to write the programs on it to perform other functions.
Also, a lot depends on what you consider as part of the OS. Most OS's for general consumption today install with a good number of components built in (like with Windows; Explorer, Notepad/Wordpad, calculator, etc are all built in) that make it effectively function, if extremely limited, with nothing more added on.
If, however, you dont consider those components to be part of the OS, one could also argue that things like drivers are not part of the OS...in which case the computer would very much be useless, as simple things like the monitor or keyboard will not interface properly with the system.
Another note, too, is what what sort of computer you're talking about...we mostly think of computers only as the PCs/Macs, etc, that we use to browse the Internet, write emails, do finances, etc on, but that really only makes up a very small portion of the computer world. There are millions, arguably billions, of other types of computers out there, like the ones running things in your car, controlling the traffic lights on the street, or interpreting which floor to take the elevator to when you push the button. All of these computers have rudimentary OS's of sorts that simply provide the comptuer with the functionality for what it is designed to do. They often dont really have any additional software, but are very useful.

Well, I agree. Most computers need something inside of them to work like the PC for example, without an OS, it's not functional.

I agree, since a computer, strictly without any software but the operating system can do nothing but boot and let you play with windows(maybe) and push files around(that you cannot open).

A computer without software is just a box. That's the hardware.
The operating system is software. The email program is software. The web browser is software. If that is all he cares to do, that's fine. He doesn't have to buy any extra software.
The only way to use a computer without software is to use it like a box. It can hold doors open, makes a good footstool, there's enough empty space inside it to store some of your junk...

Absolutely CORRECT. Because how can you run programs i a computer without its software? Just like when you buy a hardware the plug it to the computer. and it will not run unless it has no software. Because software or programs in the hardware or computer make the hardware works.

Computers are useless without software except OS. I see OS as software in this case because you should be able to do something with OS without software because how do you install software on OS. Using those same mechanisms the OS have, you should be able to use a computer and it's not useless then but you might need another computer to do the stuff you use to control the computer and that stuff is too simple to be called software.
What do you do with computer you can't use without another computer? You can use it to run some processes you don't want to be slowing down the other computer.
