Without a doubt, it's going to damage our language. I've already heard of students writing in text-speak when they do homework (i.e., term papers and the like), and then wondering why they got such a poor grade. The ability to read, write, and yes, sometimes even to speak properly is going down the drain in part because of text-speak (there are other factors, to be fair, but I'm focusing on chat-speak because that's the subject of this discussion.). Examples: "You" is now "u" "Know" is now "no" (this one drives me bananas!) "Are" is "r" "Tomorrow" has been transformed into "2mro" "See you later" is "c u l8er" There is a ton of other examples, but I'm trying to keep this post relatively short. Y'all get the picture, though.

Language is constantly evolve. Take a look at the original shakespeare and we can see the difference in language usage. And fortunately the Chinese written words are simplified years ago, else the writings are much more time consuming and difficult to master. As long as language allows people to communicate in shorter time, it does not really matter in what form the language is. Even cyber language is useful and time saving for communication purpose.

I think it will have an inmpact on our original language because they are already incorporating it into TV commercials, I think that this will cause for worse slang language ever, and take away from out origianl culture of our true language for a kids now and in the future!!

Cyber language has definitely been on the rise over the last 10 years! I know here people SAY some of the abbreviations that they type! It is always weird to me. I dont think that it will harm our language though. Language is something that is always evolving. I have looked through a dictionary that belonged to my great-Grandparents. There are so many words in todays dictionary that didnt exist in that dictionary! With technology, so many new words came into each language. A few that we couldnt imagine not existing are computer, internet, television, cellular phone, microwave oven. These are common to us, didnt exist 100 years ago! Another example of how languages evolve is comparing Shakespeare's writing to today's writing. Many people are forced to read Shakespeare in high school and college. Many people have to get help in trying to understand what Shakespeare is saying! The students speak English and Shakespeare wrote in English, but they are different because the language has evolved. I dont think the language will be harmed. But I am sure people 100 years from now will look back and laugh at the way we talked today!
