troubleshooting widows installer

I have window xp installed on my pc. It is working well but i have a problem now in its intaller. Now if i wants to intall a new software on my computer, initially window installer starts but after a single step it shows that your windows installer has beeb currupted and the installer closed without installing the software. I have also tried other installers but they do not works fine. if any one have have any solution then please help me.
