Why buy shavers with 4 or 5 blades when 2 are cheaper?

I dont understand it. I am okay with the cheap basic disposable shavers but my Hubby wants at least 4 blades. The cost is crazy. I buy him a three pack and I cand get me three dozen packs for the same price. Is it really worth it? Is there something I am missing here? What do you shave with and why?

the extra blades don't make any difference. i tried the 3 blades, then the 4 blades. did the same as the 2 blades. the way the blades are lined up only one really hits your face. to get all the blades to hit your face you have to do some strange rocking motion.

I have never thought that maybe only one blade hits your face at once. I watch those commercials anf they say that each blade goes through and cuts closer then the one before and you believe it. Wow. That makes me think a bit differently about the whole thing.
Thank you.

Its worked on me I guess. I really thought that was how they worked. I just bought the cheap ones because they were cheap.
I will not be fooled anymore!

its all clever marketing. make up some impossible illustrations showing how it works, get some people that can't even grow facial hair to use them in a commercial, and people eat it up.

There are lots of things we are buying that we really don't need and the extra blade/s of a razor is one of them. The more number of blades won't make the shave smoother. If we want a closer shave, run the razor once again. The extra blades will not even make the razor lasts longer. The longevity depends on the make of the blade and how one takes care of the razor. Thoroughly cleaning and drying the razors will make them last longer.

I think so. It makes me wonder what I am missing though. There are so many people with so many opinions. I will be trying a few to see what I have missed out on or if it is worth it to me at all.

I suppose that four blades shave better than one would. If your husband wants a really close shave I can understand his reasoning. They do seem a bit on the pricey side though when you compare them and consider how often they need to be replaced!
Could you reduce the cost by buying him the sort where you just replace the blade and reuse the rest of it?

He uses the ones that the blades are replaced and the handle stays. They are like $15 for 8 refills. I can buy a 12 pack of the cheapos for the cost of one blade. It is worth it to have him clean shaven, but the pennys would add up fast if we could cut back here.

I think it makes a difference. The more blade there are the closer/smoother the shave. I also found that it lasts a little bit longer. I used to use cheap 2 bladed razors. Now I use a more expensive 3 bladed razor and the difference is awesome.

I was thinking I might try a few different kinds. Maybe there is a difference that matters to someone that might not to someone else. I know that there have been many times that I liked something that my family did not. It might just be an opinion thing.
Thank you.

i can understand your husband because i am the same way some people just cant use the disposible blade ones because they use a cheaper blade and you can get cut very easy, plus some of the diposable blade ones don't have moisterizer in the head of the strip like the other ones do so you need to buy more lotion to make up for the loss from shaving because with disaposible your skin can get rough, so i always buy the good ones , because with the cheap ones i cut my legs and arms all the time even with shaving cream.

He does use the cheap ones when we run out of his nice ones, and I have to be thankful for him, he does it with out complaining. I use what ever I have on hand and I am okay with it as long as the hair is gone. Maybe I dont really know what I am missing. After I try the new blades out I might be a fan of them instead of the cheap ones.

I have to say that I really like Venus razors for myself, they are terribly expensive but seem to last forever, I have one that I have been using for about 2 months and it still gives a close shave! My husband uses the disposables and goes thru them like crazy. So is it worth it to keep buying lots of them or one or two more expensive ones?

I am going to try a few different kinds and see if the nicer or rather more expensive ones might last longer and then save money. I have a bic razor on the way to my house for my first tester. I had a venus in the past and loved it but the cost was not worth keeping it to me.

I totally agree with you. I wont waste my money on 4-5 blade razors... THERE'S NO POINT!!!
I do occasionally splurge and buy razors with the little lotion strips on them... LOL
I think they just buy them because the commercials have convinced them that it gives a close shave... NOT TRUE!!! I've used them forever and once i got a free sample for a gillete five blade... NO DIFFERENCE!!!

I have recieved the samples too and I gave it to my Hubby. He says it is better for his face since it makes less cuts. I understand not wanting to run around with cuts on your face. I shave my legs and I dont seem to get a bunch of little cuts. Maybe I will have to borrow his shaver and see what all the fuss in about.

I shave with great 4 and 5 blade razors for free. How? I use coupons and plan when I use them around sales at places like CVS, Walgreen, Target, and K-Mart. I can not remember the last time I actually had to shell money out of pocket for a razor and I buy the GOOD ones. Try looking into coupons and visiting We Use Coupons or A Full Cup. People there will be able to steer you in the right direction in terms of how to get things like razors for free. Oh, also, if you like to use a good shaving gel, you can get those for free using coupons, too. I just got 4 bottles of the stuff for free yesterday using my coupons. :-D
