Right now I have both. I have three mini Dachshunds and a pit/lab mix. It is soooo funny first thing in the morning when I let the dogs out, the first one out is the big dog (75 pounds) and it looks like she's being chased by the Dachshunds. Kind of like an elephant and ants!
I have always had large dogs, but my heart was stolen by these three little imps!

Monica is very possessive of me (and my boyfriend Bill) and bless her tiny little heart, when Abby (the pit/lab mix) comes up to the couch when we're sitting there Monica is as swift as a rattle snake! All you see is a black stripe and teeth as she nips at Abby to tell her to get away from her people!!! It's so funny to see something that isn't much bigger than a mouse (Monica is 9 pounds) biting something that is 75 pounds. It's even funnier to see the look on Abby's face! It's pure surprise!!! Abby is so sweet, she doesn't even think to try to bite back (Monica would be gone in one mouthful!).
The cats think that the Dachshunds are big mice so they will chase them through the house. (Hummm, anyone else see something wrong with that picture?) Also when the dogs are on the couch with us the cats will come up and bathe them. Even I have to admit that I live in a strange household!

I have had only large dogs all of my life but a couple of years ago a small yorkie mix adopted us so she became my first small dog. We also have a large dog who is less than one year old and she's fairly hard to handle because she's so strong. I think there are good qualities in both of my dogs so I can't say that I prefer one over the other anymore.

My mother had raised St. Bernards while I was growing up, so I had always been partial to the big guys. We have 2 yellow labs, 1 black lab/mix and 2 mini dachshunds...I agree they all have their own qualities...but the big guys are easier to find and not step on...lol!

When I think about it, I often think that I would like a small dog because it eats less and its crap is easier to clean up than that of a big dog :D
However, whenever I meet two dogs: a big one and a small one, I always like the big dog better. So I guess I would enjoy a big dog more :D Even though it's harder to take care of.
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I would like to choose big breed dogs to feed, similar to Golden Retriever, Long-haired Collie, Border Collie, Seld dogs and Shiba, etc. Because the big body type of them can give me a strong feeling of safe, in stead of small breed dog will let me without feeling of success for their size have not obvious change whatever how long I had been feeded.

I just got a Toy Fox Terrier. I did my homework before getting this dog. They live to about 13-14 years. Only get to about 3.5-7 lbs (about the size of a small cat) and are highly intellegent and easy to train. In fact, my 9 week old puppy is already learning how to sit. He loves the reward system (cheese) and it really helps to calm him down in the process. They are small dogs, however their mentality is that of a large dog. In fact their size does not matter to them. They think they are a big dog. The reason for getting the Toy Fox Terrier was because of our 8 year old son. He wanted a small dog, and I agree. This dog will not "pull" against the leash.
However, that isn't to say I don't love large dogs. In fact, I do. I have had several large breeds of dogs (i.e. Chesapeak Retriever, Black Labs, Brown Labs, etc) and find that with the right training, they are just fine.
So to answer your question, I love them both. However at this time we have a small dog (and he is great!!!, his name is Riley).

I have seen some dogs the size of small horses and can just imagine how much that they must eat.
I am not sure if it is just because I like everything small or what.
My car is small, my place is small, my tv is small. All my plants are small. I like small things, including my 6.5 pound Yorkie, Shitz Tzu, Maltese cross.
I prefer a small dog and when I have to pick my dog up, I am glad she is only six pounds.
I like a small dog because I can take her places that i wouldn't be able to otherwise. For example, I can take her shopping with me in most every store I frequent. Beside large grocery stores of course.
She is light and I can take her on long walks and carry her in her front carrier when she getrs tired. She makes an awesome apartment dog too.
She sits perfect in the passenger seat of small two seater car.

Ihave to say that I prefer big dogs. Because I have grown up with them all my life and if I wanted something that was as small as a cat I would just get a cat. No wait I have 3 cats and 2 dogs so I just don't like a small dog for me. I'm use to big fluffly doggies. Ok Give me a husky and I'm in heaven. :).. Luckily I have 2 huskies.

I have always liked small dogs. I have two, one a bichon frise and a normal size pomeranian. They both weigh about 15 lbs apiece. They are good dogs, but they do have their moments. I walk them everday, twice a day as they get so energetic and I need to drain their energy. I had the bichon first, and I got the pomeranian last year, so she could have a playmate. And play they do lol. They chase each other in the backyard lol. They also try to chase squirrels, but they are just to fast for them. The squirrel will run on the top of the fence and the dogs will run along the ground next to the fence to try to chase it lol. It is so cute to watch them. I am glad I have them as they are good companions for me since I live alone. Have a good day, and happy mylotting.

I had medium size dogs while i was a kid. If i'm to choose a dog now then i'll go for the biggest.. It'll be fun having something big that adores you and behave like a kid at the same time

I am not really picky about dogs though, I find the little ones cute, and the big ones really adorable to hug..hehe but I do prefer bigger dogs, although they really mess up the house once in a while and really big to feed on but they can act as a guardian of our home, which is the best for me. But hey any kind of dogs is really a man's best friend.

I prefer to have a small dog than the big one, cause it's so easy to carry your own pet if they are small and i like carrying my pets.
