I guess you have a lot in your mind. That happened to me so many times before and what I do is that I make myself tired and I avoided sleep for long time. When I went back to bed then I felt sleepy because I was so tired using the internet and playing with my baby. Sometimes I do count sheep but they don't work. I do read books but still unsuccessful. I tried all the possible means but still no good. But I must admit that when I can't sleep at night most reasons fall to the fact that I do think a lot of stuff. I am always at home, no work yet. Husband is at work and when he arrives we talk about our plans which sometimes are not going together. So I think a lot I think too much that I can no longer sleep. If you are not thinking of anything before sleeping then maybe you have an insomnia. Better ask help from someone or visit a doctor. If that happens so many nights and you can't still sleep well and you kept of dreaming a lot then also inform that to a doctor. Maybe that is already a deeper problem that you need to find remedy.

Thank you so much for those good suggestions. I never thought there are many ways to solve problems of not being able to sleep. I guess I will try several of those. I do not exercise because I am lazy stretching my body. I also do not drink coffee but I drink coke sometimes. Again that would be a big help to me. Thanks so much!

I bought my grandpa that tea and he swears by it now. He thinks its the best thing ever! Lol... I now have to send him a batch of that tea every once in a while, because he said he can't find it in Puerto Rico. So I'm guessing it works.

It's really hard to tell unless you consult with a doctor. A lot of these sleeping problems are related to another medical condition that a person may have. I was also like that before. Last year, I learned that it was related to my thyroid disorder. You may also go to the hospital that has a Sleep Laboratory. They'll run some tests and observe you for a night and they'll explain the hows + whys, then they'll tell you what to do. That's just one side. I was thinking, do you drink coffee or soda? Perhaps you could limit your caffeine intake, especially at night, try not to drink coffee or soda... my mom has a hard time sleeping each time she drinks soda at night.

Doing a relaxation exercise while lying on the bed will help you. Start with three deep breaths and concentrate on your toes and imagine the muscles of the toes are getting relaxed little by little. Then your foot, the ankles legs, knees, thighs ... come upwards relaxing each part. When it reaches your head ... well most of the time you won't reach your head because u will be sleeping!

You need to see the Dr. Get your blood work and all that good stuff, just to make sure your body isn't lacking some vitamin or something like that. Do you excersise and eat healthy? He might need to give you some sleep meds, but hopefully you won't need those

I have the same dilemma as you do and i have this problem for a long time. It just get worse more this time. Though i have find useful things to do at night when i couldn't sleep and that is to work online, i couldn't still let myself continue to be like this because i know it will have some bad effects on my health in the future. Like you i think i have done all possible things i can to make myself sleep but it doesn't work out except counting sheep and taking sleeping pills. I prohibit myself from that way since i know its not healthy as well- i mean the pills. I know this is due to stress and a lot of thinking but i haven't learned to control it yet- i mean i haven't learn yet how to break the worry habit so i will not think a lot that makes my brain work even when i am about to sleep. At this time i am also looking for help, do some research about how to help myself. I may try aqua puncture as many said it helps and may give myself a break and relax. Well i hope i can also find some useful information here on your discussion and i hope you do as well. happy posting!

one thing that might have happened is that your biological clock might have changed. By that I mean that you might be used to sleeping at another time. Then forcing yourself to sleep earlier won't help. Besides, you coud try a little hot whisky before going to bed. Watching Tv/movie on the pc till you doze off works too.

Evaluate the place you sleep in. Is it stressful? Do you have a big alarm clock with those haunting red digital numbers? It helps if your room is completely black, without distractions like a television. I found it really difficult to sleep in my dorm last year, so I bought some sleepy tea to help me out, and it did work, but so would any warm beverage without sugar. Make sure you don't eat things with lots of sugar a few hours before bed. Also, think about reducing or eliminating your caffeine intake during the day. One less starbucks is one more hour of sleep! Also set up a scheduled sleeping routine. Lay in bed for 30min with your eyes closed at like 9:30 each night until it becomes a normal thing to do and you get the urge to sleep naturally. Over the counter sleep aids really suck and can upset your stomach and keep you up rather than putting you to sleep, so don't give in to that quick fix.

If you think its too soon to go to the doctor, you might want to take multi-vitamins. Some vitamins tells your body what it needs and one of it is sleep. I once took vitamins to have extra energy and it turns out I got more sleepier. My friend said its because my body needs rest that is why the vitamins made me sleepy so that I would sleep. Maybe you also have a lot in your mind that is why your mind is always active and you can't sleep well.

maybe you are thinking of something subconsciously. underneath your mind something is troubling you, you are stressed, usually it is like that with me, when i think of something and worry over something i cannot go to sleep well and keeps on waking up in the middle of the night and at times dream a lot and wake up so tired. so what i do is get things done what is have to be done, remove what is worrying me and at times before i sleep i think of something that would make me happy and i pray...hope you get your good sleep back.

I had faced similar situation like this. The same thing.... lying in bed for hours without sleep.... when I get sleep ... still it will not be deep one.. etc etc. But now its all completely gone. Know what some people say that the place matters. Donno how far it is true. Have you shifted to a new place and is that you are not getting proper sleep?? Just try to change your room. Have some milk before going to bed. This will induce for a better sleep. Also choose the right kind of book before going to bed. I can never fall as sleep with a novel in hand.(It will tempt me to finish it). But if I start reading a technical related book. I will be fast as sleep in just 2 or 3 pages. (I'm serious. Not kidding). Why don't you try this???

I advice you to see a doctor first to see if there is something lack in your body that makes you hard to sleep. There is one way in my experience that is to do a lot of housework. After doing several hours of housework, i feel exhausted, and i sleep soundly. I do not know if it works for you, but you can have a try. After all, when you finish your housework, your room will become very clean and fresh. It's terrific. try it if you are interested. Hope that you could sleep well later then.
