are the ratings on imdb trustable?

I frequently use IMDB's ratings when I want to check out a movie, but they are not necessarily accurate. I guess it all comes down to taste. I watched Citizen Kane before because it was highly rated and was even named the best movie of the past century in one list, but I was terribly bored with it. I didn't even get to finish it and had to read a synopsis. But my tastes usually agrees with the IMDB rating.

I do regard IMDB rating as my ruler if this film is worthing watching. A new-launched film, which has a relatively high rating, will be soon decreased if it's not really a good film. I don't know the principle how IMDB gets his rating for every movies according to the ratings of all of us but i just know they use the Bayes theorem in the statistics. Quite reasonable and scientific against the spam voting.
