i charge mine not longer than 2 hours, and i unplug it as soon as it says battery charged. but when i talk to customers and advise not to charge it overnight, they think im an alien. some would even say that its crazy to charge their battery while they're awake etc. i which i could say, if there's a will there's a way. they dont believe that overcharging causes battery life to diminish. geesshh.. i dont know if im the stupid techy person, or those people just think they are smart enough coz they've been around cellphones all their life..

Overcharging one's phone will cause it to actually explode if one dun realise it!! For myself, i will only limit my charging time to about 2hrs and not more.. Because i dun usually use my phone till it's totally flat, and thus i dun need such a long time for it to be fully charged ^_^
PLus, i'm charging my phone once every 2-3 days or so.. hehe ^_^ And i dun think heavy users of handphone, are charging their phones everyday also right??

I always charge my battery for several hours. I think it is harmful for the battery if it's charged overnight. Nowadays cellphones are very popular. While bringing the convenience to our life, the cellphones also become a potential damage to our health. Therefore, I hope that there will be green cellphones some day.

What I mean is when I get home in the evening I shut my cell phone off because I have a land line. So I will put it on charge till I wake up the next day and take it with me when I leave so about 6 hours or so.

Which battery you are talking about? The mobile batteries?
Well, you are right, overcharging batteries always decay their life. My brother always use to scold me when I charge my mobile for more than 2 hours. He is even happy with 1 hour only!

My phone only takes thirty minutes to an hour to charge. I usually dont have enough time to charge though or i forget. SO in the morning I wake up plug it in while getting ready. Then before leaving grab it. Its on there only twenty minutes or a little more. So it gets a decent charge and not left on there long periods of time.

It should depends on your battery type. There's two major type of battery which use nowadays. Nickel Metal Hydrid (NiMH) and Lithium Ion (Li-Ion). NiMH batteries have memory effects. If you recharge you NiMH battery before it's empty, it will reduce the battery's lifetime. It's different with Li-Ion batteries which don't have memory effects. You can recharge your Li-Ion battery anytime without must wait until it's empty first. But it's better don't overcharging. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

I usually charge my Nokia cellphone until it says battery full too. It takes about an hour and a half. As for my Sony Ericsson cellphone, it reaches battery full in about two hours. As much as possible, I do not charge it overnight. But sometimes, I need to because I cannot wait for two hours until it finishes anymore and I need to go somewhere at around seven in the morning. Yes, charging batteries overnight really reduces the lifespan of the battery. Sometimes, even the battery itself doesn't work anymore because of overcharging. I learned from personal experience. I charged my previous battery overnight, then the next day I forgot to plug it off. So it was charged almost 24 hours. Then when I put my battery in my cellphone, it did not turn on anymore. I knew it was overcharging because when I tried other batteries, my cellphone turned on. That was truly a lesson learned the hard way.

Hello,
Over charging a battery is a complete no no.
When you over charge your battery, it can mess up your cell phone altogether, and you will be needing more then just a battery replacement , how about a whole new cell phone.
The best thing to do when your cell phone, finish charging is to unplug it.
Happy My Lotting!

I'm one of those ignorant ones who think that charging a phone overnight is going to make that cellphone lasts longer for the battery usage. But I'm going to be perhaps the 1st user to believe you because I think thinking about that now makes total sense. However, I have a question. How about if we charge the cellphone on? Will it reduce the battery life span too? Or should we charge it off? I tend to off it when charging but I don't know if there's any difference to it. An answer would be greatly appreciated. Gd day, buddy. ![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

thanks for answering zed's question benny! n_n
to add to that, its ok to charge it while it's on but minimize ur usage while charging, coz if not, what will normally happen is that it'll charge faster compared to normal but it also gets depleted faster.

Well they just don't care for their cellphone, that's all. They're quite confident because it's covered with warranty unlike here in the Philippines where we'd rather buy a new unit than to be bothered by availing of that warranty. I believe the battery will does faster if charged the wrong way. It should be charged the way it should as told on the manual. Most probably around 1.5 hours to 3 hours depending on the type of their charger. Phone won't function well on a wrongly charged battery. Calls cannot be made because from full bar, it will go down to 1 bar in an instant.

Overcharging will degrade the quality of your battery. It will lower its life. Once it says full charge or charge completed, it should be unplug from the charger. The hours of charging is not fix. It will depend on the charger if how much current it gives to your battery. The best way to keep it good, is to charge it once the battery is empty or lowbat. Then, always check its status to monitor the charging level.

i charge my battery full for abt 4 hrs and it work for 2 days straight smitmes depends upon hoe much i talk on it , but it is true that charging the battery overnight causes damage to the battery and reduces its life ,every battery has a fixed amount of times it can be charged so once u plug it in charge it fully coz the counter is running so just charge t in one go ull get the maximum out of the battery....
