Do you recycle gifts?

I recieved several gifts for my birthday and Christmas that I really could have done without. A sweatshirt with some weared design on it that I wouldn't wear to cut the lawn and a cheese gift basket. Well the cheese basket had a few good looking cheeses in it, but I wouldn't eat the rest of it. I didn't want to throw away food, so I rewrapped it and gave it to someone else for their birthday a few weeks later. The sweatshirt actually turned out to be a good deal. It is great for wiping the oil off my hands when I am done working in the garage. Does anyone else give gifts they recieved to someone else? If so, what is prabaly the worst gift you had to recycle?

I always hate when you get gifts that you would never use! Those are usually from the people that feel like they have to get you something, but dont know you well enough to know what to get! I am so very thankful I havent had gifts like these in a long time! My family is actually getting away from giving gifts. We get together for birthdays. Last year at Christmas time, we gave all of the money we would normally spend on gifts to a family that needed it. It was far better than any other option! I actually remember that Christmas gift. Normally I would have forgotten by now! I hate that gifts have become obligatory so often in today's society. They have almost become meaningless. You are just another name on someone's list that they buy some sort of junk for! I will always try to pass anything on to someone else, if it is something I wont use. I hate to be wasteful, so someone might as well use it!

I agree with you derlila about that gifts have become obligatory lately. I recently went to a bridal shower and while looking at her registry..everything was over 30 dollars. I love my friend, but we're not close enough for me to spend that much money. SO i got a cute frame and a wall hanging thing. Anyway I don't like getting gifts I can use because I have to find space for it or figure out what to do with it. IF it is from a family member I keep it for a bout a year and then regift it or give it to Goodwill or Salvation Army.

Great response, it made me think of another good discussion. How much to spend on gifts. I really hate getting gifts I can't use or wouldn't use at all. I know my mom knows what I am interested in, but for some reason she will spend money on stuff I don't like, rather than just buying me something I do like. It don't make sense to me.

I have a hard time re-gifting things even if it is something god-awful or I couldn't use ever. Instead I do what Jezebella said, I donate things to the Salvation Army, Goodwill or even my church when we have yard sales.
