Universities and community colleges

I am a Drawing and Painting major. Anyone out there ever felt like a University school is better or worse to start out with than just going to a community college first? I never went to a community college. I just went straight to a University. Do you miss out on anything by skipping that prepping step? I feel like I have. I felt behind when I was at the University taking my art classes. The university proffesors there expected us to already know so much even though I had not ever taken an art class. I am actually transferring to a community college now because of family reasons and to be closer home. What do you guys think?
