Dont just assume

This drives me nuts, the people who assume that the subject of the discussion is all there is to the discussion. They dont bother to go in and READ what is written they just go off and answer based off the title. I really wish some people would read and not just assume the title is all its about. I've seen it happen with tons of people's discussions, my own included. It seems almost a waste of time to answer a dicussion to me if i dont know what all the discussion includes. Do you notice people doing this? does it drive you bonkers too? OR are you one that doesnt bother to read the discussion before clicking respond???

Hey there saundyl! There are a lot of things that drive me bonkers on here As long as the most part is fun though I don't bother. Yes I have seen what you are talking about very often and on my own discussions too. Many Lotters just want to post, post, post and post more but have no time to read much at all. It takes all sorts to make a world and myLot is no different. Don't let it get to you please!

I try not to let it get to me. Somedays it does cause i see it in discussion after discussion and it just..builds up! I guess it bugs me more cause i'm here to see what people have to say not just post post post.

I will sometimes start discussions with strange eye catching titles. Then add a few sentences along those lines. Then the discussion will get to the point, which is based loosely on the title. It helps to attract responses from the general population. And of course I get a lot that respond according to the title and not the subject of the WHOLE discussions. I love doing it and it does not bother me too much they do that. But I add a comment letting them know to re read the WHOLE discussion before responding. Thanks. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

You have some really interesting titles for your discussions. I'm always curious to read more after i read them! letting people know to read the whole thing is a good idea. I might try that.

Yup, drives me totally batty! Sometimes my topics will be a bit sarcastic so they really aren't about my real discussion. Or sometimes I just want to make them catchy so that people will read the rest of my stuff, even though it has something to do with my discussion but not always literally. But yeah, it bothers me too!

Thanks!!! I do try to make them catchy and orginal. But sometimes people just don't get it and refuse to read he entire discussion. I just started another catchy one too! The topic is really different than the discussion - kinda...

Have you heard of the saying.. When you ASSUME, you're just making an A$$ out of U and ME.. A$$-U-ME. LOL! But on a more serious note, i used to be a really active member of mylot.. but due to some things like you mentioned, it can become quite tiresome. I read through every discussion first because as your first commenter has said, most just attract people with their discussion title so it might not be entirely about the title itself. And another thing, don't you get annoyed how suddenly everyone seems to agree with what you have to say? A healthy disagreement is great once in a while.:) That's why we ask for opinions.

I like that saying - its so true at times. I have noticed the agreeing a lot of the time however - im here to learn, share my opinion and well if i really wanted to disagree id go talk in some of the politics and religion forums - wow can those topics ever spark a debate!

I got some of these people on my discussion too... May be I made it too long or something. some people dont like to read. ... loz. I always read complete to see what they are talking about and what should i respond back as well. However, if you see these people respond to you then dont reply back.

I think i'll respond - i feel rude just ignoring the response however i will point out from now on that the response really didnt follow the discussion's topic or answer the question.

it does drive me nuts too.. i try to never do it but im sure i have lol.. but i hope im not as bad as some people that seem to ONLY read the subject line and thats it.. i mostly have problms with long discussions because my ADD will start making my mind wander and so i try to read it but end up skimming it and then i get the wrong thing from it and look stupid lol

I find i have trouble reading the discussions that people don't take the time to use paragraphs and punctuation. It just seems to make the words all blur together and my eyes go lalalalalala. I find that happens a lot with the really really long discussions. And The emails that mylot sends don't keep the paragraph forms - they mush it all together.

I wonder that too. Sometimes i stop my discussion and make it into two so they arent a huge long discussion.

i know i hate that.. i always wonder after making discussions (especially if they turn out to be longer than i like but dont know of a way to shorten them) how they will end up looking and if they will be hard to read due to the email thing

I have seen that happen alot in mine and others discussions. Either that or they don't read all the way to the bottom of the discussion missing out on half the information by doing so. Some like to answers discussions that are short and sweet and the longer the more their attention span wanes and they only half-a$s answer. It does annoy a bit, but I don't think nothing will change their ways.. they are always hopping on to the next discussion as fast as they can..

Hi Sanudyl, I hope i am not the one off your topic. LOl...You know what, yes, there are some people that replied your discussion with their own idea. Maybe the ideas they were sharing did not match your topic, but as least, they worte something, isn't it? So, just relay and let it go.

True they wrote something - i admit the one that set me off was partly they didn't read it and partly the fact that i wasted 5 min loading their response to only get a 2 word response.
