well, tough times are everywhere, but i think this a little bit much to be honest. last night we went to a local dollar store (we are in canada) and the dollar store has changed to a dollar and a quarter store! they charge $1.25 for everything in the store now, not just a dollar anymore. not sure if i will shop there much anymore. am i out of it, is this happening elsewhere or is this unusual?

Sad. Looks like this is the case everywhere. We do not have dollar stores here in India, but the malls which used to give discounts are not giving any anymore. So I think yes, this is the situation all around the world and I don't think this is not going to change for some more time and it will surely change. So all we gotta do we is survive. bourne

last year in china we face this situation too.everything got more expensive then any time before.especially the pork, sometimes before we bought pork 10 yuan a kg,but then it rised to 20,can you believe?but we are just individuals.what should we do?dont eat pork any more?it may be unrealistic to do that i think,we can only complain and curse the business man who is selling pork now.but is that his fault?i dont think so.he also want the price be more cheap,so he can sell more pork and then earn more money.

We still have dollar stores here in Winnipeg, but if we charge anything it has to be $5.00 and over and I do not like carrying cash around with me. There is a dollar store in our Mall and we cannot use Visa or Mastercard, we have to use cash. There are two cash machines but one is a Royal Bank and the other is a Credit union one and my banks are Bank of Montreal and CIBC so that does not work for me. But don't worry, soon we will have a dollar and a quarter stores here pretty soon.

I can't believe that the Dollar store is now $1.25 store. I haven't been to our dollar store in a while, but now I am interested to see if they have changed this too. I don't think I would go there as much if they raised their prices. Some of the things aren't really worth $1 in the store either.

Well,as I just came back from Canada last month and indeed,I can not find the dollar store out there in the streets~anyway, here in China,I don't think dollar shops worth to be visited as the poor quality here.opsss~~ Regarding to the price, they just shout at dollar but most of things are above~just forget them!!!!

Whatever they sell in a dollar or dollar and half store may cost 0,05 to 0,40 cents if order in bulk...I have 0,38 cents pen that we get for our company and it costs over $5 in the store...

Same in Florida! The 99cent Stuff is now just plain ole Stuff. Most of the prices are 1.29. Even with the increase, its still cheaper than most of the other grocery stores, so I'll still go there, but I've cut even further on the amount of things I buy.

I am not really sure about if it's happening here. Did the sign change, or does it still say what it used to? Do you know if it's like the ones here in America? Well in any case, I know that there is dollar general's here, but they are different from the dollar store. To be honest when you started this discussion what popped into my mind was nickel and dime store's, I didn't actually think the dollar and quarter store was more money until I read your response, lol. Kind of funny, huh?

We have pound shops in England and you can get hundreds of things for a pound.crips. hairspray ect and it is really good,I am not aware anything has gone up in price at the moment. You have to be careful though just because it is in the pound shop it does not make it cheap.as I spotted a few things you can buy cheaper in the local supermarket.Furniture polish for instance was a pound in the pound shop but 80pence in the local supermarket. So be careful.

We have a local dollar store in the mall and they just recently got bought out by another dollar store called dollar star and everything in the store is over one dollar and nothing in there is one dollar exactly so i think it is kinda a scam and not worth it at all. It used to be really busy and got a lot of attention, but not it does not and since there is a dollar tree right across the street from our mall then i am sure everyone just goes there like me and gets stuff for one dollar or sometimes less than one dollar.

In Chicago the tax rate is over 10%. Food items you can usually get for slightly over a dollar, but if your buying a computer to electronic you would be spending a lot more money because of the tax rate. I got my Ipod for $165 because of the tax rate. 10% of 150 is 15 and so 15 + 150 = $165. This is a lot more than what I expected to pay. In this time of recession things are just becoming too expensive. Hopefully it won't last too long.
