Can you make your own icecream flavors?

I'm really interested in creating my own unique homemade ice cream flavors. But not sure how to do it. I have thought about buying plain vanilla ice cream and mixing in Koolaid or some other flavored powder. My daughter loves the Cherry Koolaid so that might be a nice flavor. Do you have any other ideas for creating unique ice cream flavors?

I don't know if this counts so much as a new flavour, but when it's done it's about as thick as dairy queen soft serve ice cream. We take some really good thick vanilla ice cream, some coffee liqueur, a bit of milk or heavy cream, and some espresso, maybe a bit of chocolate,. Mix it all up in the blender, and it comes out almost like a soft-serve ice cream. Boy is it ever good!

No, you don't want to put cool aid in ice. Take a pint of vanilla ice cream and let it come to room temperature, or put in the micro for about 20 second and check it. Put it in a bowl. If you want cherry flavor for your daughter - buy a jar of cherries...cut some up into small pieces and add that plus a little liquid to the ice cream..it's soft so you can stir it all together very well....then put it back into the pint container and back in the freezer until it's hard again. You can add anything you like, Reeses pieces, M & M's, nuts, pieces of cut up peach, or blueberries. There are many items you can add...just work them in and refreeze the ice cream.

You could also add pieces of cake (small pieces) or smash up some of your dauther's favorite cookies and put that it. Use what you have in your house or what you know your daughter likes...

I would be inclined to use fresh fruit and experiment. I like banana and toffee flavour, so you could add some mashed banana, I guess and swirl in some caramel, then top it with some small pieces of chopped up fudge. That would be cool. Coconut milk or cream would be another idea, and perhaps some tiny pinepple pieces mixed in. That would give quite a tropical flavour. There's all sorts of flavours you could conjure up. Brightest Blessings.

I am pretty sure you could do it with any Kool aid or jello packet you wanted to. Crushed up cookies in softened ice cream and then refreezing it would be good too.

I've never done it myself, but if I were making ice cream flavours I think I'd try to use fresh fruit. You could either blend it in with the ice cream if you make your own, or make a syrup to pour over. You could add a fruit flavoured yogurt as an alternative if you made your own icecream. It would add an interesting creamyness which might be nice. Fruit based flavours would be far better for you that adding Koolaid or similar, I'm sure.

My mom I think still has her ice cream maker, but other then that I can't say I've ever made any ice cream and the flavors we made were just the same as what we could have bought. Using Kool Aid would be nice, and maybe Jello as well? I don't know about that though as it may not come out quite as you might have liked it. Mixing it up really good is a must though, I know how unmixed powder tastes in the throat, and it can tickle, lol!
