If you are after reliability, I would suggest sony or toshiba. I sold laptops and pc's for a few years, and these 2 brands were by far the best. HP / Compaq are ok too, but were not as reliable as sony or toshiba from my experience.

Andrew I beg to differ with you, I know you were a sales person. But I'm 61 years old and have been on the internet for almost 17 years! I've had several brands and the ones you mentioned are good but as far as being reliable the HP models are the best! I've had several and My Sony had clock problems that took forever to solve, my Toshiba had major battery problems! I'm speaking from experience. Never had any problems with my two HP laptops or my 3 desktops! tdemex

I bought a Dell laptop before and I think it works fine until now. I am pleased with their service after sale. You can make a call to them if you have any technical problems. Besides, I think Dell's computer's price is very reasonable. If I am going to buy a new computer, it's likely I will choose Dell again.
I love China

Hi Zelma! I hope Zelma is ok! I've been on line for over 12 years, I've had a few laptops in those years and I have to recommend the HP brand my last two laptops were HP, and they gave me a Dell for work. The Hp brand has always been reliable and I've never had a problem with them! I also use a hp printer and camera. That ( to me ) is the best combo. Even if your low on cash, it's cheap and a good product. I just got a new laptop from best buy it was on sale and I got the floor model for $450 and it rocks! No problems, it has vista and I had heard a lot of bad things about Vista but this thing is awesome ! It's my opinion, but really you should look in to one, and don't forget, you get what you pay for! tdemex!

Whenever deciding to purchase a new computer whether it be a laptop or a desktop you should always check a review website where they test all the latest products and tell you what it hot and what is ice cold!! My favourite website for this is CNET.com. They literally test everything on this site from laptops to desktops and everything you can think of computer related. I guess once you have had a look at a few then you will start getting a good feeling about one particular product. Follow your gut instinct and good luck. Andrew

I've had very good luck with HP laptop. I've owned nothing but HP laptops since 2004, and I love them all.

Hey Zelmarq,
I'm not really IT savvy, but I was in the same situation as you, aighteen months ago. Laptops can be cheap, or very expensive. The best advice I can give you is get something that will satisify your needs, and don't pay through the nose for one that has all the 'bells and whistles' in it. You only need what you need to use.
Good luck.

A desktop is definitely cheaper than a laptop. Whether the laptop is expensive or not depends on what configurations you need. From my observations, Acer appears to be one of the cheaper brands among the branded.
I am not sure if such is applicable in your country. In Singapore here, some ISP bundle a laptop with the broadband package. It is definitely cheaper compared to buying a laptop separately and subscribing to the broadband package.

Hello Zelmarq. Right now I am still using my old IBM laptop, which has been in use for more than seven years old while my wife is using a Dell one. They seem to be working well. So as to the brand of a laptop, I prefer my old laptop, which is a good friend of mine, offering me so much pleasure. So do you have a dream brand laptop? If yes, try to get more information about it before you make a decision to buy it. Good day, friend.

naks. new laptop.. that is something. well, laptop nowadays is somewhat a need already.. and it is handy too, that is why it is more advisable than a desktop computer. the brand that i would suggest is Apple.. hehe.. because it would be better and nice and one of a kind. toinks.. but if there is no other, then i would go for Toshiba. i think, it is cheaper and it is second to apple.. it is also the brand of my laptop.. hehe.. yah, I would go for Toshiba.. it is nice..
