Lately my PC has just started to be so slow and its annoying! At first I thought maybe I had too much junk so I defragmented my local disks, installed Norton antivirus and even did a disk cleanup. But still it is still slow. My laptop is only a year old and I use Windows vista as my operating system. I googled for some answers and the most common one was increasing my RAM. But I dont know how to do that..
My RAM currently is 2.00 GB and its a 32 bit operating system. Now am no genius at this so I'm wondering how can I increase my RAM? If you've had this problem how did you solve it? Any advice is much appreciated.

I believe 2 gigs of ram is plenty and so far I have heard that most computers only go to about 2 gigs ram max.
I run XP Pro on a desktop here and I only have 1 gig and this computer does have a few lags and freezing once in a great while but it runs good the rest of the time.
I used to have a computer that ran good then after a while ran slow but after running window defrag and cleaning out the junk files and stuff, it helped a little but eventually I just had to back up my important files and downloads to another drive and format my computer and reinstall windows. I know it's a hassle but it worked great for another 8-10 months and then started running slow again and I did the same thing over again. I do it on my current computer also but less frequent like 12 - 14 months unless I install something bad or something that eats up memory usage which could be your issue to as to why yours is slowing down.
I also want to say that I have been hearing from alot of people who used Norton that it will also mess up your computer. Some other programs can do the same too. Check what you have installed by going to control panel and checking. If you see something in your installed programs that you don't remember installing, it is possible you may had an unathorized program install itself in your computer which I have had a couple programs do that on my computer before which have slowed mine down also. Just don't go uninstalling anything unless you know what it is since uninstalling somethings may cause your system to stop working or cause errors.
There may be another way to help speed up your computer like a certain program that has utilities like one I seen at Wal-mart the other day but I am not sure how reliable they are or if they help so you could chance it and try a Utility program which may or may not help.
That's all I can suggest, but if you find out some other way, let me know so I don't have to format my drive every 8 - 10 months. It gets frustrating formatting then reinstalling everything over and over and over again.
I don't know what else to say since I only know so much. Hope you get your computer sped up again.
Thanks,
Brian

Hey badger welcome to my lot! Thanks so much for the advice. I did try uninstalling programs am not familiar with but like you said the majority of them were there already when I bought the laptop so I'm kinda of scared to uninsatll stuff incase it messes my computer up. I have backed up my files already but I'll give your idea a go and see how that works. Cheers for that amd happy my lotting!

2GB Ram is sufficient for 32 bit operating system. Try installing tune up utilities to increase the performance of your laptop. I use Dell laptop with 2gb ram and run Vista 32 bit. After installing Tune up, My laptop started performing well.

No, increasing your RAM would not help you because if you are not using high end programming on your computer, you laptop has ample RAM to make it work smooth.
Windows Vista has had some bugs which might cause your laptop to work slow. I would recomond you to switch back to XP!

IF it is really irritating you you can always do factory settings and destroy everything.. I did that and my computer went lightning fast..

There's a few things that could be slowing your computer down. Unfortunately, one of them is Norton. There are a variety of other antivirus programs available for free--check out download.com. Another thing that could be slowing down your computer could be extra items on your desktop such as files and documents. My sister's computer was crawling until she put all her stuff on the hard drive rather than her desktop. Hope that helps!

Delete some unused files. Uninstall the unused software. You may try to tweaking your computer. There's alot of tweaking software you can use. 2 GB of ram is quiet great so you don't need to spend money on upgrading the ram. Try to checking your installed software. Remove the unused since sometimes it has background process. Good luck and have a nice day. Happy mylotting.
