I got some news today that upset me beyond belief. My insurance premiums has more than doubled in cost because i am a smoker!!! I understand that i need to quit and i have tried with little success. The longest i managed to stop is for a few weeks. But to almost triple my insurance premiums over it?? I have been paying $48 every two weeks, the letter i got today said its going up to 106, but if i was a non smoker it would only be 55. I dont think it would upset me as much if the insurance actually covered things to help a person quit smoking but no they do not. Now i have no choice but to quit, but the thing is i have to be smoke free for three months before my premiums will go down, on top of having to wait for the next quarter to start. Also what kills me is what about alcoholics?? Shouldn't there premiums go up as well because they are killing there liver?? Is this in any way right?? Or is just another way to try and get people to quit??

what i dont get is that they didnt inform you of this when you signed up.. i mean you have to fill out those forms and say that you smoke on them so why now all of a sudden? shouldnt there have been some warning?
and what sucks is that if you lie (which i know you wont but for other people im mean) and get a chest infection or something is asked by your doc and you admit to the doc that you smoke or the doc thinks whatever is being aggorvated by smoking and documents it the insurance can not only pull your insurance.. back charge you but possibly even charge you the whole price to where you wouldnt even get a discount for having insurance and sue you worse since they have in writing that you are saying other wise.. so ugh..
i can see if going up but not that much and not that fast.. thats ridiculous! too bad you cant afford to get hypnosis!

It is just a way for them to try to get people to quit for sure. I am pretty certain that by the time my children grow up and have children smoking will probably be illegal. and they say we are not a dictatorship? Yeah right! I am a smoker to and I want to quit and I am working on it. However smokers shouldn't be treated as second rate citizens.
