Yes, whenever our brain and body wants to sleep then the our system of Yawn is automatically doing its duty, Yawn not only humanbeings but also Animals attacking of Yawn. Also someone in tension or tired then also Yawn is coming heavily. Yes, My teacher told in my childhood that whenever the opposite person giving Yawn then automatically you also connect that time Yawn. This is Natural system and not getting till answer of this. Whenever i doing more work on computer my lips starts always to doing Yawn. Anyway Happy Yawns, and Happy Mylotting.

Well I guess so. Usually I also yawn when I have a bit of a respiratory problem. If I have a difficulty breathing due to my Asthama, I begin to yawn. It is my body's way of handling the oxygen deficiency.

Hi Bhabytart, There is a saying, when you yawn, that is the sign that your body give you, warning that your body are tired adnd you need to take a rest. I am not sure if that's ture. But i do think that if you don't have enough rest, you will yawn a lot. That's how it reflect on me.

I've seen this on TV in one of National Geographic episodes... and one time in Discovery channel, they said, people yawn because the supply of oxygen in their body is getting low, yawning is the fastest way to recover the lost oxygen in the body... Our nervous system sends a signal to our brain about the danger so our brain also acts immediately... I notice that we yawn a lot when we're bored, when were seating in a room and when we're on the crowd. They also said that yawning is a social activity and still remains unexplained why when we see people that yawn we tend to imitate them...

Its because we are so stressful from work, tired exhausted or else hungry. If others yawn also its an influence from the one seeing it. Need to have rest and sleep, your body requires you to rset.

Well for some it maybe because they are sleepy. For some out of tension usually when a person is under stress they tend to lost some oxygen and the first thing the body do is to yawn to yawn to draw up more oxygen in his body. With regards yawning being infectious I guess it is purely psychological. Seeing someone yawning can somehow be psychological on the part being infected by the yawning of the other party.

http://kidshealth.org/kid/talk/qa/yawn.html not a referral link Check this site out as to why people yawn and see what you can discover. I have always heard it was a lack of oxygen in ones body but I am not sure!

Interesting discussion! It goes back to our ancestors, who would bare their teeth in an act of aggression to see off rivals etc. Animals do it too - especially the higher primates and dogs. Years ago, I read how if you yawned in front of your dog rhey would see it as an act of aggression and go for you. My old Rebel didn't - he gave me a bored look and went back to sleep!

Normally when we are sleepy, we will yawn. Yawning is a method used by our body to grasp and inhale more oxygen. We need more oxygen to stay alert! I was driving interstate to work 9 years ago. The journey going is about 45 minutes but in the evening due to jam, it can takes up to 75 minutes. So, at certain point, certain location, I will automatically yawn to grasp more oxygen I guess. Really felt very sleepy! By the way, yawning are contagious too
