do you maintain your own guitar?

Just wondering how I can keep my guitar from any damage when I'm away for a long time? Speccially from molds or mildews or whatesle that can infest my guitar even if its very safe in its hardcase...is charcoal okay?I've tried silica gel,it helps but is there something esle?

Keep your guitar away from extremes, dont keep it in damp areas also a hardshell case is worth gettin if u havea guitar u really care about. i usually change my strings every 3 months and after im dont playin i wipe it down with a microfiber cloth.

Thanks for your helpful advise,actually somebody also told me ,A.)I should buy a guitar hanger,so that it will lessen the tension of the neck from the pull of the 6 s.steel strings,B.)so that you can always see your guitar if it needs cleaning or maintenance and it will also be a nice wall decor too...I think it all make sense,thanks,happy mylotting :-)
