Starting Over.

If someone has told you that you have to live with your past decisions, choices, and actions, than they are wrong, don't believe them. The past is past and has nothing to do with the present. It has nothing to do with Right Now. Do not let anything from your past inhibit you in this Present Moment. Start over, Start Fresh each day even each hour, if it serves you. Just do it because it's never too late to begin again.

Pose- As I read the title in my email I had something else in mind until I got to your thread and was able to read the post in full. What came to mind from your title was that I've had three times in my life that I had to start over from scratch. The first was when I left abusive ex. I left with one bag. I lost everything I owned. The second time was when the apartment my children and I resided in caught fire upstairs above us. We lost everything again, and had to start over. Then when I got my first teaching post after the fire, I couldn't afford a moving truck so we packed what we could in our little car, and pretty much lost everything-again. It was during that first teaching post that I realized that there is no true attachment to things other than what the ego makes. Things can be easily replaced and they are mere tools of our existance, but they are not us, and they hold no sentiment unless we give them that. Today, I live in the present moment quite a bit. Oh, there are times when I slip, but I just start again with taking each moment as it comes. It's when I'm in the present moment that I have very little stress, very little worry, and when I'm most content. Namaste-Anora

Hi Anora, Many of your responses are somehow very special because you are often able to connect the post with something in your own life. Thank you for doing this once again. Blessings.

Pose- Thank you very much for the BR. I hope you are having a wonderful week. I suppose it's taken me time to get to the point of not being too attached to my "things". I do have things, but if they come and go it doesn't bother me as much as it used to. Namaste-Anora

No one has told me before. If one does, I won't believe it either. Everything on earth marches forward, preparing for a new season - and so should all of us! Former days are gone and done with, and we benefit nothing by turning back the wheels of history. We don't have to live with our pasts.

The present gives us the opportunity to start fresh and create a wonderful future. The past is never coming back ,so we need to concentrate on the present.

You should learn from your mistakes though to make starting over the most wonderful experience of your life. I started over a few years ago.....chose to follow my dream....only after raising my three kids. The experience I had....bad choices I have made...decisions that have changed my life have made a difference in the person I have become...so yes...start fresh each day putting the past behind you and into perspective!

It is true that we are products of our past, but we do not have to be prisoners of it. God's purpose is not limited by our past. If we look at the Bible, there are many examples of God's people who had had very bad experiences or past, but because these people acknowledged their weaknesses, God turned them into amazing ones. For example, He turned a murderer named Moses into a leader and a coward named Gideon into a courageous hero, and he can do amazing things with the rest of our life, too. I believe that God specializes in giving people a fresh start....

I agree with you. Only the present, the moment of now, is what available for us. The past we can use as feedback in order to make a bettr decision at the present moment. Yes we aren't never too late to begin assuming that you are sure about where you are going (your goal). Otherwise, again it'll be a series of start overs on a direction you don't want.

I agree. You can't go back and change the past but you can make changes for the future by making better choices for yourself. Like the saying goes, tomorrow is another day.

I do agree with you, but there are only certain things that can remain in your past. Not everything. I have made a mistake in my life that is with me to this day, but I make it a good mistake now. And I did and am doing right by them. :)

I completely disagree with you. While the past is gone and there is nothing we can do to change it, it has EVERYTHING to do with the present! Where we have been and what we have done has shaped us into who we are. I agree that you shouldnt let your past haunt you. There are some things in life that we have no control over. There are some situations that we wish never would have happened. But each day you have the choice of hiding because of what has happened, or accepting it and going about your life in such a way that you will enjoy it! You should always look forward and strive for what you want in life. But the past has brought us to our current place in life. Enjoy the journey. Learn as you go. Make life what you want it to be.

Hi derlilaStern, Thank you for commenting. I think we may just be looking at this from different angles. I agree that our past has made us what we are today, but nothing in our past should be able to stop up from making a fresh beginning today. Many people carry around garbage from their past that they need to get rid of. Blessings.
