Against Gay Marriage; How can you quote some scripture and ignore others?

Again, I posted a discussion about the gay marriage ban in the US a week ago. A few people who are against gay marriage did post their reasons, many of them quoting scripture from the bible. I am a Baptist in faith, very spiritual and straight. However, I am for lifting the ban. What really amazed me in that discussion was that they would quote scripture that is against gay people supposedly, but they would not acknowledge, when asked, what about the scriptures that speak about Vengeance being the Lord's, no one sin is greater than another, that He gave us all free will, and that he doesn't judge not one of us until the end of our days. So that is my second question to you today MyLot; how is it that you follow some scripture when it comes to Gay marriage, but not the bible as a whole?

Ever heard of selective hearing? Same thing - selective reading.

I knew when I saw that you had replied to my discussion, it was going to be some smart @$$ comment lol. I am not looking for people that support gay marriage; I actually want to know some of the reasoning behind the religious fundies that always quote bible scripture to denounce gay marriage. Unfortunately, even though a few showed up in my discussion last week, none are bold enough to come here to express just why they do that. Wish they would do that when it comes time to vote to lift the ban.....

I think that sometimes people quote what they want to hear. If everyone lived by the bible-meaning every exact word--this would be a beautiful place. People tend to follow scriptues as it suits them. But it is just my opinion so please don't take offense. Happy MyLotting.

No offense taken. You are exactly right, these people take the parts of the bible that fit what they believe most, and ignore the rest. Yes this land would be wonderful, but as God said, no one is without sin. That brings up another good scripture that fits this situation. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." No one sin is bigger than the other, yet you always see these religious fundies hollering about how the gay/lesbian lifestyle is the biggest abomination known to man. Argh this is a mess.
